An exciting addition to Hilton Worldwide’s Tapestry Collection brand, Scholar Hotel State College has launched following an extensive revamp of a historic building.
Scholar Hotel Group has bolstered its portfolio with the introduction of Scholar Hotel State College. The property, located just one block away from Pennsylvania State University, is an extended-stay offering that also caters to overnight guests.
Tapestry Collection’s newest member
The new Scholar Hotel State College will come under the umbrella of Hilton Worldwide’s Tapestry Collection, which brings together unique hotels filled with style and personality. It’s situated at 205 East Beaver Street in the Greenland Building, which was acquired by Scholar Hotel Group in 2019, and has since undergone extensive renovation and restoration works.
Gary Brandeis, president of Scholar Hotel Group, said: “We are thrilled to open the Scholar Hotel State College and bring the historic Glennland Building back to life. We love the State College community and think the Scholar brings a new standard to downtown, not only with its unique interiors and features, but with its extended-stay-equipped guest rooms. As a Penn State graduate, it is an honour to introduce the Scholar to State College and the university.”
Historic location and a distinctive offering
The Glennland Building dates back to 1933 and was the first property to have an indoor pool in Central Pennsylvania. The interiors of the hotel, in particular the lobby, reflect this impressive history.
The renovations have turned the building into both an extended-stay and overnight destination. In total, there are 72 extended-stay rooms, fully equipped with kitchens and a generous, flexible work area.
Social Food+Drink, due to open in the first quarter of this year, will boast a full-service bar and a small-plate menu. There’s also 1,250 sq ft of meeting and event space, a fitness centre and a lobby marketplace.
