Sustainable luxury hotel set to open in Italy’s Piedmont region

Bringing together a stellar team that includes Krause Group, GaS Studio and Parisotto + Formenton Architetti (P+F), Casa di Langa is a 39-room property with strong eco-friendly credentials.

Just an hour and a half from Milan in Italy’s north-western Piedmont region, Casa di Langa will boast views of over 40 hectares of working vineyards and, beyond that, a seemingly endless sweep of rolling hills.

Due to open in spring 2021, the 39-room scheme is owned by Krause Group, an American company whose broad portfolio also encompasses Serie A football team Parma and convenience-store chain Kum & Go. The high-profile group’s led by chairman and CEO Kyle J Krause, who also has a family home in the region.

“From our first visit to Piedmont, my wife and I were struck by the grandeur of the landscape, the unforgettable food and wine, and, most of all, the generosity of the people,” he explained.

A low-key, natural aesthetic

Inspired by the region’s landscape, the concept is being brought to life by Milan-based duo GaS Studio, which is in charge of the architecture, and Parisotto + Formenton Architetti (P+F), which is leading the interior design. Taking its cues from the property’s hazelnut orchid, vegetable garden and vineyard views, the result is refined Italian simplicity evidenced by a soft, neutral colour palette, natural woven textures and materials from light timbers to linens, earthy details like indoor plants and ceramic accessories, and a standout art collection.

Each of the guestrooms features a private terrace, relaxation area, spa bathroom with rain showers and luxurious Le Labo toiletries, while the hotel’s commitment to sustainability is reflected in the use of 100% recycled water for irrigation and geothermal heating, zero single-use plastics, and PV cells and solar panels.

Activities that take in the best of Piedmont

A gateway to the Unesco-listed Langhe region, known for its cultural landscapes, Piedmont is internationally famed for its barolo and barbaresco wines and truffles, as well as brands like Nutella, Fiat and Lavazza. It should probably come as no surprise then, that the hotel’s guest experiences will include tastings at a wine academy, truffle hunting, exploring the vineyards by Vespa, or learning to make local dishes in a hands-on cooking class.

After a day spent soaking up the region’s culture, there’s also the hotel’s indulgent Lelòse Spa, with its heated infinity pool and products from Comfort Zone, to relax in. Meanwhile, Sorì Cocktail Bar allows guests to indulge in a selection of wines from neighbouring vineyards including rare bottles from its sister wineries, and fine-dining establishment Fàula Ristorante, helmed by chef Manuel Bouchard, who cut his teeth at five Michelin-starred venues throughout Northern Italy before the age of 25, serves a menu of innovative dishes based on local harvests and sustainable agriculture.

Krause added: “For Casa di Langa, our goal has always been to create an eco-friendly space that reflects that warm spirit of the region in a way that is both elegant and accessible. With this hotel, I’m proud to have the opportunity to share the Piedmont we love so much with our friends and guests from all over the world.”
