Premium all-inclusive resort operator Club Med comes into its 75th year of business having enjoyed a record 2024.
The business reported revenues up 7% year on year, to EUR2.09 billion, as its winter resorts saw a 20% growth as guest demand for ski holidays show no signs of diminishing. Notably in Japan, China and the Alps, mountain resorts all performed strongly.
An improving premium portfolio
The ongoing transformation of the portfolio to a more premium offering was evident in the average 5.9% rise in average day rates charged. The group is also seeing more demand from guests for summer mountain holidays, and currently operates 11 mountain resorts through the summer. Destinations include the French Alps, Hokkaido in Japan, and Quebec, Canada.
The group continues to upgrade the quality of its resort assets, repositioning them with a more premium all-inclusive offering. Club Med Phuket has recently undergone a phase of renovation, combining Thai elegance while delivering a family friendly destination. Also coming in for a refit is Club Med Bintan, in Indonesia, which will be completed in 2026. A first phase will see guest rooms renovated, and new family spaces created, during the second half of 2025.
Looking ahead, Club Med will be expanding its global reach with new resorts opening in new countries. During 2026, it will launch Club Med Borneo, in Sabah, Malaysia. The property will be the first in Asia Pacific to be constructed to meet BREEAM sustainability standards, and will feature 361 rooms and 39 further luxury suites. Activities for guests will include nature walks and snorkelling trips.
Also opening the same year will be a combined beach and safari resort in South Africa. The group’s first destination in the country, the resort will located on the Indian Ocean coast, providing a great location for surfing and enjoying the beach and sea, along what is known as Dolphin Coast. Guests will be able to combine this with a safari experience, taking a drive north for more than four hours to reach an 80 room lodge located within the Hluhluwe game reserve.
Growing into Brazil and Oman
And Club Med will also add its first Exclusive Collection resort in South America, with the opening in 2026 of Club Med Gramado. Set in the Rio Grande do Sul region, where summers are warm and winters are snowy, the resort is expected to become a destination for weddings and special events, as well as for travellers seeking thrills and time in nature.
In 2028, Club Med will open in Oman, with the 300 room Club Med Musandam. Once again, the group will seek BREEAM certification for this project, which will afford guests a choice of water sports, wellness retreats and the enjoyment of dramatic scenery, from Scandinavian style fjords to nearby mountains. Less than three hours from Dubai, this is sure to become a highly popular resort.
