We put the new landmark conference hotel Scandic Aarhus Ø, currently under construction on a prime waterfront site in Denmark’s second largest city, under the microscope.
The huge newbuild Scandic Aarhus Ø scheme promises to really up the ante in Aarhus when it finally opens to the public.
A brand-new waterfront development
In May 2017, Scandic announced that Aarhus Municipality had chosen tender group Bassin 7, which included the Nordic hotel company as operator, to create a major new hotel in the city. It added that the project would be built in collaboration with developer Rune Kilden and investor Anders Holch Povlsen.
This under-construction hotel is being designed by Bjarke Ingels and his architectural firm BIG, alongside Sleth. It’ll incorporate 500 rooms and space for 2,000 conference guests or 3,500 concertgoers, providing a place for travellers to stay, work and unwind within the regenerated docklands area known as Aarhus Ø.
Distinctive architectural design
Scandic Aarhus Ø has been designed as a spiral-like structure, inviting people to climb to the top, where views will take in the harbour and city centre. This expansive hotel will also feature an exterior public walkway, which is to cover the full height of the building with gardens overlooking the water.
The development’s distinctive architectural design promises to make the hotel a prominent part of the overall Aarhus Ø Bassin 7 project, focused on creating a meeting place where cultural, city, island and harbour life merge together.
The hotel is currently planned for completion in the first quarter of 2025.
