We take a closer look at plans to create a stylish property under the Little National Hotel brand as part of a major mixed-use development in New South Wales.
An exciting new hotel is on its way in the thriving Australian port city of Newcastle.
Ramping up plans for 42 Honeysuckle Drive
Located at 42 Honeysuckle Drive, Little National Hotel Newcastle will provide a new place to stay opposite the harbour and near the future Newcastle light rail stop. Doma Group’s development application for a 140-key scheme was originally approved in 2018, with revised plans then unveiled in October 2019 to add more hotel rooms and a boutique office block amid rising confidence in future tourism and employment levels.
Bates Smart in Melbourne is handling the project’s architecture and Mathieson Architects is working on the interior design.
Business and leisure
The mixed-use vertical precinct will be home to the 187-key Little National Hotel Newcastle along with 4,700 sq m of office space.
Designed to accommodate both business and leisure travellers, the hotel will be home to facilities including a coworking lounge and library area, gym and north-facing upper terrace with rooftop bar, with key amenities also made available to those working in the offices. The overall concept aims to blur the lines between the hotel and office space.
Currently under construction, the project is expected to reach completion in early 2023.
