Dubai is the city with the most hotel openings in November
A peek into the subscription-based TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database shows just how rapidly the hotel market will expand in November 2020, fuelled by strong growth in North America and Europe.
222 hotels with 40,571 rooms are scheduled to go live in November 2020, our research has discovered. We take a closer look at what’s on the cards.
Hotel openings by region
North America will celebrate the highest number of hotel launches overall, with 72 new properties and 26,627 rooms, followed closely by Europe with 60 hotels and 9,159 keys. APAC, by way of comparison, will get 53 new hotels with 9,726 rooms.
In the Middle East, 23 properties will open their doors and bring 6,352 additional keys into play. Elsewhere, Latin America will get eight extra properties with 1,466 rooms, and Africa will welcome the completion of six hotels with 1,277 keys.
Top national growth markets in November
The list of key national growth markets in November is topped by the US, where 60 hotels with 10,577 rooms are scheduled to open their doors. The UK comes in a very distant second place, with 21 new properties and 3,183 keys on its books.
We’re also seeing creditable figures from the UAE and China, which will both see 14 hotels launch, with 4,631 and 3,059 keys respectively. And Germany takes fifth place with 11 openings and 1,840 rooms.
Given the recent surge in Covid19 cases across Europe, however, it’s not known for definite if all projects in the UK and Germany will be able to go ahead as planned.
Cities with the most new hotels
Dubai takes the lead here with 11 hotels and 3,319 rooms set to be rolled out imminently.
This puts it well ahead of London, which will add six properties with 709 keys to its offering. Bangkok, Melbourne, Warsaw and Austin each have three upcoming openings.
November’s fastest growing hotel brands
A trio of Hilton Worldwide brands have claimed spots in the top five in November, making the Virginia-headquartered hospitality company our most rapidly expanding group this month.
Hampton by Hilton takes first place in our rundown with 11 openings and 1,444 keys, while Marriott International’s Element brand will add seven hotels and 1,351 rooms to its portfolio. Home2 Suites by Hilton will grow its footprint by six properties and 678 rooms, with Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts and Hilton Garden Inn both preparing to welcome five new hotels incorporating 1,031 and 736 rooms respectively.
Noteworthy hotel openings in November 2020
In Cambodia’s capital city, Shangri-La Hotel Phnom Penh will open as part of a new mixed-use development called The Peak. The hotel will boast 300 luxurious hotel rooms with panoramic views of the city as well as several F&B outlets and event and meeting spaces. Set right along the Mekong River and facing Diamond Island, it’s only a few minutes from the Diamond Island Convention Centre and Preah Sisowath Quay, a popular restaurant and nightlife district.
The 294-room W Melbourne, meanwhile, will attract guests looking to explore one of Australia’s biggest cities in style. Created by SHoP Architects, Woods Bagot – Melbourne and Hachem, the property will showcase the latest in contemporary design to ensure visitors have an unforgettable stay. The hotel will feature a vibrant bar and restaurant, a spa, a state-of-the-art workout facility and an indoor heated swimming pool. On top of this, ultra-modern meeting and event spaces will be available for conferences and private events.
Switching our attention to Mexico, One & Only Mandarina will offer guests a new luxury getaway on the country’s west coast, close to Puerto Vallarta. This 145-room resort will feature two beach clubs, several swimming pools, six restaurants and bars, event rooms, a spa and a children’s club. Two polo fields and an equestrian centre will complete its impressive list of amenities.
Last but not least, London is set to witness completion of another eye-catching hotel project by the indefatigable Nobu brand. Nobu Hotel London Portman Square will feature 249 guest rooms and suites and a signature Nobu restaurant, as well as ballroom and meeting spaces in the heart of London’s West End.
