Group overview: Hyatt to add 333 new hotels [Construction Report]

The TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database reveals the full extent of Hyatt Hotel Corporation’s ambitious expansion plans, which focus on APAC and North America in particular.

In the coming years, Hyatt plans on adding 333 hotels and 73,457 rooms worldwide. We take a closer look at the group’s growth strategy.

Busy years coming up for Hyatt

In the last couple of months of 2020, Hyatt will open 49 hotels with 12,674 rooms.32 are already in the pre-opening phase. For 2021, 135 openings with 25,895 keys are planned.

In 2022, things will slow down a bit, and the group will add another 77 properties and 16,312 rooms. 72 additional hotels with 18,576 keys have already been signed off for 2023 and beyond.

Of the 333 projects, 193 will be in the four-star segment, while the remaining 140 will be in the five-star sector.

Key growth regions for Hyatt

Hyatt will be concentrating its growth on the APAC region – 147 new hotels with 35,991 rooms are in the pipeline here. However, North America is a close second, with 128 projects and 24,566 rooms in the pipeline.

The group will expand its presence by 28 hotels and 5,476 rooms in Europe, moreover, while 18 properties and 5,419 keys have been lined up for the Middle East. Elsewhere, seven hotels will open under the Hyatt flag in Africa and five will launch in South America.

In terms of national growth markets, China takes the lead with 102 new hotels and 23,329 rooms. In its home market of the US, by way of comparison, Hyatt’s footprint will grow by exactly 100 properties and 19,488 keys.

Canada comes in a very distant third place with 14 openings and 2,251 new rooms, India takes fourth place with 11 launches, and Saudi Arabia rounds out the top five with nine hotels.

Hyatt’s fastest growing hotel brands

Hyatt’s upscale brand Hyatt Place will gain the most new properties overall with 66 openings and 12,122 keys. Yet the Hyatt Regency flag comes in a close second with 64 launches and 16,610 keys.

Hyatt House, the group’s extended-stay brand, will grow by 40 hotels and 5,837 rooms. And not to be overlooked, Hyatt Centric will add 33 properties and 6,592 rooms, while Grand Hyatt will get 26 new properties and 11,735 rooms.

Noteworthy Hyatt openings

Alila Koggala will open in southern Sri Lanka by the end of 2020. The hotel will be on the shores of Koggala Lake, just five minutes from the famed Ahangama Beach and a 20-minute drive along the coast from the city of Galle and its World Heritage-listed Galle Fort. Its 45 suites and villas will offer luxurious living in naturally beautiful surroundings, with exquisite views of the lake. In addition, the environmentally conscious architecture, interior design and landscaping should help to immerse guests in the absolute height of thoughtful luxury.

Andaz Turks and Caicos will be a resort comprising two buildings, the 59-room hotel and the branded residences. Guests will have a choice of four restaurants and bars, including an elevated venue featuring unobstructed panoramic views of the sea. Health and fitness amenities at the state-of-the-art indoor wellbeing facility will include an outdoor garden yoga studio and a full-service indoor and outdoor spa with dedicated luxury concierge services. The opening date will be in late 2021.

Lastly, Hyatt Centric Yalikavak Bodrum will offer 77 rooms with beautiful views of Turkey’s south-west coast once it opens in Q3 2021. The hotel’s five food and beverage venues will serve up both locally and internationally inspired cuisine. The property will also incorporate a spa, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and more than 544 sq m of conference and events space – making it the perfect destination for weddings and other large-scale functions.
