Country overview: 364 hotels to launch in Germany [Infographic]
The TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database reveals that 364 hotels will open in Germany in the next few years, with a strong focus on the four-star segment.
In the next few years, Germany’s hotel offering is set to grow by 364 properties and 57,926 rooms. We find out more about these forthcoming projects.
Hotel openings by year
For the remainder of 2020, another 36 hotel openings are planned, bringing 5,029 extra rooms into play. 29 of them are currently in the pre-opening phase.
In 2021, there’ll certainly be plenty of activity in Europe’s largest economy, with 106 scheduled launches adding 14,698 keys to the country’s offering. Another 74 projects are being lined up for 2022, while 148 more hotels are on the books for 2023 and beyond.
Germany’s top urban hotel markets
Hamburg, which is home to Germany’s largest seaport, will get 23 new hotels and 5,625 extra rooms in the coming years, and so tops our rankings. However, the country’s banking capital Frankfurt am Main follows right behind with 22 properties and 6,532 keys.
In the capital Berlin, 19 hotels will open, bringing 4,121 new rooms along with them. A further 15 projects will go live in Munich, adding 2,199 keys to Bavaria’s capital, and the industrial town of Düsseldorf can expect nine hotels with 1,896 keys.
Hotel brands on the expansion trail
Hampton by Hilton is the fastest growing hotel brand in Germany – the brand will add 12 new properties with 1,949 rooms across the country. Dormero follows in second place with 11 hotels and 1,046 keys.
Elsewhere, InterCity Hotel will grow its presence by eight hotels and 1,631 rooms, while Dorint Hotels & Resorts will get seven new properties with 1,081 keys. Lindner Hotels & Resorts concludes the list with six upcoming openings and 1,065 rooms.
German hotel openings you should know about
Apart from the openings planned in Germany’s top cities, several noteworthy projects are going on in secondary cities and popular travel destinations as well. Let’s take a look at a few of them.
In the small town of Glinde in northern Germany, the 79-room Golf Gut Glinde will launch by late 2021. Its unique combination of Mediterranean Arabic styles will set it apart from other resorts in the area, and the property will be right next to an expansive golf course, which guests will have access to. Onsite amenities will include a restaurant and bar, as well as the state-of-the-art Vabali Spa and impressive conference facilities.
Another eye-catching development is the Seehotel am Schwielochsee, only a short drive from Berlin, which will welcome guests from early 2022. This luxury hideaway will be part of the Seedorf in Neuendorf am See, a holiday village created to attract guests who want to spend their holidays or weekends out in nature. The modern hotel will offer 130 beautiful rooms overlooking the Schwielochsee and the Spreewald’s beautiful landscape.
Meanwhile, Ostseeresort Olpenitz is nearing completion. Set on the shores of the Baltic Sea, this 144-unit property is part of an expansive holiday development, and will offer pleasant rooms and holiday apartments overlooking the water. Several of the residences and facilities in the resort are already completed and open to guests. Construction work on the final elements will likely continue until 2022.
Lastly, Arcotel Hafencity Dresden will feature 183 keys, five seminar rooms covering around 300 sq m, a fitness centre and an underground car park. On the culinary side, there’ll be a hotel bar and a restaurant with an open show kitchen, a sun terrace and a garden. The opening date is set for early 2021.
