Mandarin Oriental’s Singaporean site is temporarily closing its doors to undergo a six-month transformation.

Re-opening in September 2023, Mandarin Oriental Singapore will offer a brand-new look and feel.

Full facelift

The hotel’s multi-million-dollar transformation is set to take place across all fronts, including a complete redesign and refitting of the hotel’s interiors, from the grand lobby and the 527 rooms to the food and beverage venues.

Interior design firm, Design Wilkes, the creative force behind Mandarin Oriental’s properties in Dubai, Bangkok and Tokyo, has been commissioned to lead the extensive transformation. The redesign will complement the property’s iconic architecture, designed by architect John C Portman.

New luxury dawn

The hotel  first defined luxury in Singapore’s Marina Bay in 1987. Philipp Knuepfer, general manager of Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, said: “This is a new dawn of exceptional luxury. We have said farewell to the 527 rooms, seven food and beverage outlets, full-service luxury spa and many  other facilities that have proudly served our guests for 35 years.

“Whilst we are temporarily closed to our guests, we will focus all our efforts on the transformation of what promises to be a spectacular new version of Mandarin Oriental,  Singapore. Together with our colleagues, we’re excited to welcome a new era in which we continue to honour our legacy of outstanding service.”

Global rebrands

Other existing properties Mandarin Oriental is currently working on include a number of rebrands to bring the buildings under the group’s umbrella.

These include Mandarin Oriental Abu Dhabi in the UAE, a luxury site undergoing a phased renovation over two years, which is due to complete in Q2 this year. The work encompassed significant upgrades to the 394 guestrooms and recreational amenities, as well as new food and beverage facilities.

In Europe, a five-star property will undergo a complete makeover of its interiors before the new Mandarin Oriental Savoy Zurich will open its doors. The 80-key site is due to complete in Q3 2024.
