This week’s Project of the Week brings two major international hotel brands to one of the world’s busiest airports

IHG Hotels & Resorts is set to introduce two internationally branded hotels at Shanghai Pudong International Airport for the first time. Opening in Q4 2025, the InterContinental Shanghai Pudong Airport and Holiday Inn Shanghai Pudong Airport will anchor the airport’s new terminal complex, just minutes from the arrival hall.

The development will combine hotel, retail, and office facilities, bringing greater convenience to the airport’s more than 74 million annual passengers.

Dual-brand offering brings flexibility and prestige

The project is a collaboration between IHG, Shanghai Yukong Hotel Management Co. Ltd., Excellence Group, MASTECK, and Shanghai International Airport Co., Ltd. Designed to meet the needs of both luxury and mainstream travelers, the InterContinental will offer 480 rooms in a premium setting, while the Holiday Inn will provide 409 rooms for guests seeking comfort and value.

IHG, which entered the China market in 1984 with Holiday Inn, now operates over 200 InterContinental properties worldwide and continues to grow its presence in Greater China. Both hotels will feature true international hospitality standards, catering to the needs of global and domestic guests alike.

A key piece of Pudong’s future airport city

With rising demand for high-quality airport hotels, the new complex is positioned to become a key location in Pudong Aviation Town and the wider Yangtze River Delta region.

Airport leadership expects the project to act as a VIP lounge extension to the terminal, providing seamless accommodation, MICE space, and amenities. The result is a gateway complex that not only enhances the travel experience, but also drives regional economic development.
