A storied past
Located at 7 E. Congress Street in the Georgian tourism hub of Savannah, the historic Manger Building will be converted by Left Lane into a 221-room lifestyle hotel and clubhouse, slated for opening by early 2026.
Built as Hotel Savannah in 1912, the property became The Manger Hotel in 1954 until it was converted to an office building in 1977.
Left Lane’s new hotel will feature co-working spaces, a rooftop pool and bar, a circuit-based spa and fitness facility, two-story event space and a classic French brasserie.
Recess Hotel & Club Savannah will feature a collaboration with design studio Atelier Pond, with interiors tipped to follow a ‘retro futurist’ theme, including tactile elements like natural wood, marble and tile.
The 221-key property will hold 136 guest rooms, 23 suites and 62 bunk rooms, including a ‘Rumpus Room’ on each floor, which encourages guests to socialise, with lounge seating, large flat-screen televisions and custom vending machines.
Guests also have a chance to socialise in the Recess clubhouse areas, which occupy the ground, first and second floors. The space will contain four food and beverage offerings, including The Annex, a 6500sqm event space with an open kitchen.
There will also be a focus on wellness, with the next outpost of Left Lane’s wellness club Saltgrass also finding a home at the Savannah hotel.
Saltgrass will offer self-guided, circuit-based and express spa and fitness experiences focused on recovery. Spa amenities will include a biohacking lounge, sound temple, steam room, sauna and cold plunge. The 2,300-square-foot fitness facility will also feature a central turf area for functional training with TRX and heavy bags.
Jon Kully, Left Lane’s Managing Partner, said the venture was driven by a “commitment to the community”.
“And, each of our hotel’s respective histories,” he added, “striving to deliver nostalgic, layered spaces that inspire exploration and offer an authentic sense of place.”
“We’re building Recess as a magnetic cultural hub where the local community and travelers can create and find real-life connection in their very own clubhouse.”
The announcement comes on the heels of the firm’s debut of Hotel Bardo Savannah, a sprawling urban resort on Forsyth Park, which opened in February 2024 and has since been named one of the best new hotels by Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler.
The firm plans to acquire, convert or develop $1.5B in projects over the next 5 years in high-growth U.S. markets such as Savannah GA, Memphis TN, Pittsburgh PA, Providence RI, and Phoenix AZ.
