Iberostar Hotels & Resorts has enjoyed a transformative period, topped by a strong performance at its hotels through the summer 2024 season, with double digit growth.
The group’s brand has evolved into three segments, categorising its hotels and resorts under the sub-brands of Iberostar Waves, Iberostar Selection, and JOIA by Iberostar. These distinctions make it easier for hotel guests to choose the resort and destination that best suits their needs, when planning a trip or a leisure break.
Upgrading existing resorts
There has also been work undertaken to upgrade those resorts. The Mallorca company has invested to renovate and refresh properties, in two notable locations. Iberostar Selection Creta Marine, located on the northern coast of the Greek island of Crete, has relaunched and features 361 rooms with sea views. The resort is set among extensive landscaped grounds, including exclusive access to three coves at sea level. Guests can enjoy a meal at any of nine restaurants and bars.
Also refreshed is Iberostar Waves Gaviotas Park in Fuerteventura, Spain, where the all-inclusive resort has 237 family-friendly rooms and suites, offering accommodation for up to six people. There are five outdoor pools, with spaces designed specially for kids to enjoy safely. Upgrades have been visible out front for guests to see, as well as improving the operating and environmental performance of the properties, supporting Iberostar’s commitment to environmental stewardship and its progress towards stated sustainability targets.
The company is also growing its portfolio. One new addition is on the Tunisian island of Djerba, where the five star Iberostar Selection Eolia Djerba is located. The resort features a thalassotherapy treatment centre, as well as direct beach access for guests to enjoy.
In December 2024 there is the launch of JOIA Aruba by Iberostar, adding a new destination in the Caribbean for the brand, with a 240 room luxury five star resort. Guests will enjoy great views of one of the world’s iconic seascapes, at Eagle Beach.
Additions on the way
During 2025, two more five star properties will launch. In Mallorca, the Iberostar Selection Es Trenc will become the group’s sixteenth hotel on the Spanish island, still its home base as a business. The resort is being created by a substantial refurbishment of an existing hotel property on the island.
And in Tunisia, the group will be adding its eighth hotel with the opening of Iberostar Selection Mirage Hammamet. The hotel will have 271 rooms and bungalows, offering guests sea views and easy access to a wide, sandy beach.
Still today family owned, Iberostar can trace its roots back more than 60 years. Alongside its hotels and resorts division, the business also includes World2Meet, its travel division that is a vertically integrated business with 17 brands competing across the tourism sector. The company is working to be waste free by 2025, and carbon neutral by 2030.
