Supercity Aparthotels is about to grow its portfolio by 50%, with the opening of new sites in Edinburgh, Leeds and York

Upcoming UK aparthotel operator Supercity Aparthotels is on a growth spurt, with three new sites opening into summer 2025.

The first addition is in Edinburgh, to be followed weeks later by a launch in Leeds, and a new development in York making up the trio. The openings will be transformational for the Supercity brand, taking the company from six to nine trading sites around the UK.

Meeting growing customer demand

“This expansion marks a major milestone in Supercity Aparthotel’s growth journey,” said chairman Roger Walters. “We’ve seen a clear and rising demand for longer-stay accommodation that offers the service of a hotel with the flexibility of an apartment – and we’re in a strong position to meet that need. Opening in three key UK cities not only extends our reach but also lays the groundwork for further development as we continue to scale with purpose.”

The Supercity business launched in 2009, with an aparthotel in Templeton Place, west London. From the start the business set out to offer guests more space than a traditional serviced apartment or hotel suite, something valued when staying in one place for several weeks. Since then, it has built a portfolio that includes four London sites, plus properties in Manchester and Brighton.

New in Edinburgh, Supercity’s Forth House location in the city’s New Town features 66 suites, being a mix of studio, one and two bed units. All have been designed to support guests in enjoying a comfortable longer stay in the city.

In Leeds, The Jubilee will offer a mix of 63 suites in a property just minutes from the city’s town hall. Art-led interiors feature works commissioned from UK artists. This will be shortly followed by the opening of a 46 unit property in Micklegate, York. Centrally located in the historic city centre, it will feature Supercity’s super-sized interiors.

Supercity is not the only aparthotel group expanding its portfolio in 2025, as the sector continues to enjoy strong demand from business and leisure travellers. Often, aparthotel operators can generate strong occupancy by taking longer term corporate bookings, and filling their vacant space with late booking leisure guests, who typically enjoy the flexibility of an apartment, for a short term stay.

Also expanding is Wilde, the second brand of Staycity. There are upcoming openings in Cambridge, Lisbon and Vienna through the summer of 2025. The central Cambridge block, with 229 apartments, will be first to open in July.

Wilde builds across Europe

Into the autumn, and Wilde will open in Lisbon and Vienna during October. The Portuguese property will have 95 rooms and studios, while the Vienna property, housed within a 300 year old former post office, will have a mix of 136 variously sized units.

And in London, Adagio has just opened its ninth UK site, the Adagio Original London City East. Accommodation features 132 studios and apartments, some of which are in a new “Coliving by Adagio” format, designed to appeal to welcome groups who are travelling together, whether for work or leisure.
