Swissôtel Kursaal Bern will be the new incarnation of the existing Hotel Allegro after Kursaal Bern struck a deal with the Accor brand.

20+ years after its opening, the Hotel Allegro Kursaal Bern will write a new chapter of its history as it will be transformed into the Swissôtel Kursaal Bern.

Kongress + Kursaal Bern AG signed an agreement with Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts to renovate and transfer the operations of the hotel over to the Accor brand.

We find out more.

A new identity for Hotel Allegro

Following a deal signed between Kongress + Kursaal Bern AG and Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts, renowned Bern property Hotel Allegro will be transformed into the Swissôtel Kursaal Bern.

16m Swiss Francs will be invested in the renovation of the property’s 171 guest rooms, as well as the lobby area, and the works are due to finish in autumn of this year, although the property will remain open while the works are taking place.

Kevin Kunz, CEO Kongress + Kursaal Bern AG, spoke of the new venture, saying, “Our search for a strong international brand partner led us to Swissôtel. It combines genuine Swiss hospitality with intelligent design and a stimulating atmosphere. This makes us a perfect match. Regardless of the change in brand, we will, of course, keep the proven management team in place and will continue offering traditional Bernese hospitality.”

Contemporary Swiss style

The hotel’s transformation will be guided by the expert hand of designer Nina Mair in partnership with architects Marazzi + Paul.

Lilian Roten, Vice President Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts, said, “Our alpine heritage has its roots in craftsmanship, sustainable design and a conscious, active way of life. This is exactly what Nina Mair’s design brings to the new Swissôtel Kursaal Bern. It’s through these approaches that we offer our guests a sense of well-being, energy and joy of life, which is perfectly in-tune with our brand promise ‘Life is a journey. Live it well.’”

The execution of this design approach has resulted in calm spaces that ooze contemporary minimalism but with maximum comfort. A neutral palette compliments this design ethos, and soft shades of pink and grey work well with the pale timber flooring and wood grained wall coverings.

Roten added, “We offer a genuine expression of Swiss values and a steadfast commitment which is deeply rooted in quality, efficiency and reliability. We are excited to add a third property in the brand’s birthplace. Our contemporary Swiss style combined with local characteristics creates a balanced environment for guests to relax and feel at home.”

Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts is an award-winning and distinctive group of deluxe hotels, combining renowned Swiss hospitality with contemporary design, personalised service, charm and efficiency.
