A look in the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database reveals the true extent of Wyndham Hotel Group’s growth plans, with the company planning to add 28,543 rooms to its portfolio worldwide.

Wyndham Hotel Group, also known as Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, is gearing up to expand its international footprint by 127 hotels and 28,543 rooms, our research indicates. We take a closer look at the company’s busy development pipeline.

Wyndham’s hotel openings by year

In the last few months of 2020, Wyndham plans to open 30 hotels with 7,437 rooms. In 2021, another 44 projects with 9,812 keys are due for completion.

Things will slow down a bit in 2022 as only 26 properties with 6,595 keys are slated to open that year. For 2023 and beyond, 27 more hotels with 4,699 rooms are already in the pipeline.

Of the 127 upcoming launches, 81 will fall into the four-star segment, with just 46 pitched at the five-star category.

Key growth regions for Wyndham

Wyndham will expand most aggressively in the APAC region: 76 projects with 17,188 rooms are currently under development there. South America comes in a distant second with a pipeline of 20 hotels and 3,709 rooms, while North America’s third with 16 new properties and 4,583 keys.

In the Middle East, eight properties will open and add 1,860 rooms to the regional offering. Somewhat less impressively, Europe will get six new Wyndham properties with a total of 1,803 keys, and Africa can expect just one hotel with 120 rooms.

Top five national growth markets for Wyndham

With 39 upcoming openings and 9,527 new rooms, China is the fastest growing national hotel market for Wyndham. The US and Argentina, by way of comparison, will both see 11 properties open, with 3,192 and 923 rooms respectively.

India is another strong market for Wyndham, with eight upcoming launches and 902 keys. Australia concludes the top five with six planned openings and 789 keys.

Fastest growing brands in the Wyndham portfolio

Ramada Worldwide leads our list with 39 projects and 7,604 rooms in the works, although the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts brand comes in a close second place with 35 new hotels and 12,189 keys. In the interests of fairness, however, we should point out that Wyndham Hotels & Resorts properties will on average be significantly larger than Ramada hotels.

Howard Johnson International takes third place with a pipeline of 21 hotels and 2,155 keys. Further down the pecking order, Wyndham Garden Hotels will get 13 additional properties with 2,420 rooms, while Wyndham Grand Hotels & Resorts and Tryp by Wyndham each have eight ongoing projects. Dolce Hotels & Resorts concludes the rundown with three upcoming launches.

Impressive Wyndham openings coming up

From early 2021, the all-villa Wyndham Garden Phu Quoc in Vietnam will offer 150 luxurious abodes close to Bai Truong, the island’s largest beach. Lush landscaping throughout the resort, with an emphasis on environmental sustainability and eco-friendly materials such as wicker and wood complemented by neutral-toned textiles, will create a feeling of being close to nature. The property’s open-concept architecture will also integrate design and function as stylish full-length windows flood the villas with natural light.

The newbuild Wyndham Garden Quezon City, meanwhile, will be located directly opposite the ABS-CBN communications and broadcasting centre in the heart of Quezon City, Metro Manila. This 235-room hotel will offer plenty of opportunities to recharge and refresh, with sleep-inducing beds, spa-inspired bathrooms with power showers, free wifi, workspaces and plenty of power points for electronic devices. The opening is scheduled for 2023.

Over in Belize, and situated alongside the crystal-clear Caribbean Sea, Wyndham Grand Venezia del Caribe’s five towers will house elegantly designed one-, two-, and three-bedroom hotel and residential suites. No fewer than 11 waterfalls will rise from sparkling pools connected by bridges and canals reminiscent of Venice – its elegant waterways are intended to create the largest pool of its kind in the whole country. This 242-room property will offer a signature spa, a fitness centre, multiple restaurants, 7,000 sq ft of meeting space and an onsite excursion centre. The resort will open in early 2021.

And finally, we can’t finish without mentioning Sam Lord’s Castle Barbados – A Wyndham Grand Resort, which will boast 450 rooms on the former site of Sam Lord’s Castle, a spot known for pirate activity in the 19th century. In addition to spacious, elegantly appointed rooms, this one-of-a-kind property will offer three onsite restaurants, 20,000 sq ft of state-of-the-art meeting space and an expansive luxury spa and fitness centre. The resort will start welcoming buccaneering guests from around the world in late 2021.
