Edyn’s stylish aparthotel brand Locke is ready to launch its 11th European property in Cambridge, UK.

High-end aparthotel brand Locke is due to open the Locke Cambridge in the summer of 2021.

The new addition to Locke’s portfolio will be located within Eddington, a site being developed by the University of Cambridge.

We find out more.

In Locke step with the times

Edyn’s popular aparthotel brand Locke is set to land in the quintessentially British city of Cambridge in the summer of 2021.

Following the success of other Locke properties in Edinburgh, Manchester and three locations in London, Cambridge is the next port of call for this luxury lifestyle brand of aparthotels.

Locke’s stylish take on extended stay accommodation has proven to be a winning formula, and the Cambridge offering will make the brand’s 11th venue in Europe.

The trends of co-living, student accommodation and aparthotels don’t seem to be going away any time soon, and it couldn’t be more appropriate for the site it will be housed on, which is part of the University of Cambridge’s Eddington development.

Stephen McCall, CEO of edyn, spoke of the decision to acquire this 18,800-sqm site, saying, “We will position Locke in the centre of that ecosystem of commerce, learning, innovation and community. We are excited to be investing in this important destination, one of the biggest centres for knowledge in the world.”

Locked into Europe

The Cambridge property will follow the upcoming opening of the Locke at Broken Wharf property in Southbank on the shores of the River Thames.

At the same time as Locke acquired the Cambridge site, they also purchased a site in Munich on which they will develop another aparthotel. Munich will be Locke’s largest undertaking, boasting a whopping 360 keys, compared to Cambridge’s 180 units.

Eric Jafari, chief development officer and creative director at edyn, said, “Our recent acquisitions in Cambridge and Munich are aligned with our plans for expansion of the Locke brand across the UK and Europe. We look forward to continuing this momentum as we receive strong demand for our pioneering approach to hospitality.”

The Eddington site is a unique opportunity for the brand in Cambridge and will sit alongside 3,000 residential units, retail and community spaces, an arts and performance venue as well as a school, student accommodation and research facilities associated with the university.

The aparthotel itself will also encompass a cafe/bar/restaurant, co-working space and meeting rooms.
