House of Rohl’s Emma Joyce outlines her highlights from Salone Bagno at the Milan Furniture Fair.

The Milan Furniture Fair, Salone del Mobile, is the world’s largest interiors exhibition, and the best place to explore the latest design trends. House of Rohl, a new family of brands (including Victoria + Albert Baths, Perrin & Rowe brassware and sanitaryware, Shaws fireclay sinks and Riobel tapware) exhibited for the first time this year. Emma Joyce, Bathroom Brand Manager at House of Rohl, offers her personal view of current trends in bathrooms.

“With nearly 300,000 visitors, Salone was extremely busy. As always, the bathroom halls were extremely popular. The desire for more luxurious and more personalised spaces continues to drive bathroom design, and you could see evidence of this on every stand. During the pandemic the bathroom was rediscovered as a sanctuary, away from home-working and the ‘always-on’ world. Manufacturers are responding to this by making the bathroom more indulgent, with a mix of materials, colours and textures creating a sensual environment.

Victoria + Albert’s coloured baths and basins attracted visitors to our own House of Rohl stand. The baths are made from a unique stone composite, available in a gloss or matt finish. It is possible to have a gloss bath with a matt coloured exterior, or a matt bath with a gloss coloured exterior. With more than 200 colours to choose from there are almost endless possibilities.

Perrin & Rowe presented their new Langbourn brassware collection in an English Bronze finish. This rich, dark metallic finish is bold and sophisticated. Matched to Victoria + Albert’s beautiful Napoli bath, it was our most-photographed display.

Riobel was founded in French-speaking Quebec, Canada’s largest and most distinctive province. Formally launched in Mainland Europe at Salone, we see the brand challenging the big players in the European brassware market. Riobel’s award winning Parabola tap looked stunning with the bright orange Barcelona bath from Victoria + Albert.

My final memory of Salone is of the heat! Due to COVID, Salone was held in June instead of April. We’re all looking forward to a return to the Spring date in 2024!”
