Making a traditional shower a bathroom centrepiece

Sometimes there is nothing more indulgent than a luxurious shower.

Sometimes there is nothing more indulgent than a luxurious shower.

A shower can be a very functional and unmemorable experience. Some hotel bathrooms seem to include them as an afterthought: badly-plumbed-in, above a bath, with a shaky screen or shower curtain. However, a shower can become a bathroom centrepiece, invoking relaxation and revival.

Traditional brassware seems to naturally suggest luxury. A chunky, exposed shower valve with intuitive controls should switch the steaming hot water between a generous overhead shower rose and a real brass handshower that feels solid in the hand. Install against Carrara marble for the ultimate statement.

The screen should match the brassware finish, allowing ample space to move. Consider a ledge for those who like to shower while seated. Make sure soaps and shampoos are easily within reach.

Perrin & Rowe’s brassware collections are forged in England’s Black Country using traditional, small-batch production. Hand-cast and hand-polished, every single piece is water-tested before it is finally approved for packing. The Traditional Collection is a comprehensive range of bathroom brassware, including the definitive classic shower set with shower rose and exposed valve. Available in seven finishes: chrome, nickel, pewter, polished brass, satin brass, English bronze and 24-carat gold.
