Hyatt Hotels Corporation has announced plans to open the fourth Thompson Hotel in Mexico, Thompson Monterrey.
The first Thompson Hotel in Mexican state Nuevo León, this 150-room property is expected to debut in 2022. We look into what makes this opening especially significant for the boutique lifestyle hospitality brand.
A bold entrance into Monterrey
Thompson Monterrey is being developed by Visa Desarrollos and Grow2 in the San Pedro Garza Garcia financial and commercial area of Monterrey. This prime location places guests within easy reach of many national and multinational companies’ headquarters and university campuses, with its close proximity to Monterrey International Airport also making it ideal for both domestic and international travellers.
The property will form part of the newbuild, mixed-use complex Torre IKON, which will boast 215,000 sq ft of office space in total. The hotel will take up a portion of the complex’s 31-floor tower designed by Duda|Paine Architects, which is set to become one of the area’s most significant high-rises.
“Thompson Monterrey comes at a time of significant growth for the Thompson Hotels brand and will represent the brand’s entry into a key new market,” said Alfredo Reynoso, director of development, Mexico, Hyatt. “The Thompson brand aligns very well with Monterrey’s position as a business and entertainment destination, and we look forward to introducing a new lifestyle offering that will provide experiences that celebrate its destination in a sophisticated way for guests and locals alike.”
Thompson Hotels looks to local culture for inspiration
Through its thoughtfully curated design, culinary offering and attentive service, Thompson Monterrey promises to deliver a guest experience with just enough edge for the contemporary district it’s due to become a part of. The hotel will reflect elements of Monterrey’s cultural identity in its social hub, a rooftop bar, through entertainment and thought-provoking arts, while also placing residents within easy reach of the vibrant neighbourhood’s other dining, shopping and entertainment options.
“We are thrilled to announce the development of the first Thompson Hotel in Monterrey, marking a significant milestone for us and Hyatt,” said Luis Carlos Villarreal, president, Visa Desarrollos. “Thompson Monterrey will offer a modern, luxury experience tailored to the destination, enhancing each guest’s personal travel journey by bridging connections to the local community through in-the-know moments and collaborations.”
This new hotel will join three other properties by Thompson Hotels in Mexico: The Cape, Thompson Playa del Carmen and Thompson Zihuatanejo. Other recently announced projects by the brand include Thomas Dallas, which is expected to open in autumn 2020; Thompson San Antonio, expected to debut in early 2021; Thompson Austin, Thompson Buckhead and Thompson Savannah, all earmarked for 2021; and Thompson Houston, which is planned for 2023.
Earning a voice in some of the most exciting local scenes is Thompson’s passion and purpose, with a design-forward collection of boutique lifestyle hotels and resorts for those who do not think small.
