Six Senses has signed a hotel management agreement to open a 100-hectare, 60-key country estate, which is expected to open at the end of 2026.

Village spirit

This will be Six Senses’ first signing on the Spanish mainland. The deal was signed by El Enebro and Sidercom, the castle’s part-owners.

Built in 1563, the property, to be named Six Senses Quexigal Palace, is located in Ávila, just 50 minutes from Madrid.

The existing courtyard building and interior elements have been repurposed while keeping with the original style, and the palace’s auxiliary buildings will also be renovated to give the resort the ambience of a royal village.

The 60 guest accommodations will be distributed within the main and auxiliary buildings and include 13 suites and a presidential suite with private gardens. For family groups, and private events, there will also be a fully serviced five-bedroom villa.

Madrid-based architects Arvo Arquitectura have been commissioned for the project, in collaboration with interior designer and “natural future” advocate Raphaël Navot. Mr Navot received the Maison&Objet Designer of the Year Award 2023.

Food and beverage options will take a sustainable and local approach, utilising produce grown in the surrounding fields for the various culinary offerings at the resort. Six Senses Quexigal Palace will feature a signature restaurant, tasting room, pool bar, and several other bars.

In addition to the extensive food and beverage options, Six Senses Quexigal Palace will have a signature spa and kids’ clubhouse.

“El Quexigal Palace is a treasure of Spanish heritage, and its restoration is a responsibility we undertake with great care and respect,” said Marta Guirao and Borja Urtasun, representatives of the board of directors of the joint venture between El Enebro and Sidercom.

Six Senses CEO Neil Jacobs added that the new project would be akin to a “country resort experience”

We are delighted to partner with El Enebro and Sidercom to help write the next chapter in the story of this singular heritage restoration, one that will come to life in the care we take in even the smallest details,” he added.

Six Senses pushes ahead

Six Senses currently operates 27 hotels and resorts worldwide, and has signed a further 43 properties into the development pipeline.

Six Senses Quexigal Palace adds to IHG’s growing portfolio in Spain, which includes 55 open hotels and 15 properties in the development pipeline, including the country’s first Vignette Collection.

The resort also joins IHG’s fast-growing Luxury & Lifestyle segment which currently includes more than 100 hotels across Europe. This includes eight Six Senses properties in Italy, Switzerland, France, Israel, Portugal, Türkiye and one in the Spanish Balearics, Six Senses Ibiza.
