Gaining our Project of the Week title this time is Marriott International’s upcoming spectacular hub for work and play on the Pacific border between the USA and Mexico.

The luxury Gaylord Chula Vista Resort & Convention Center is the centrepiece of the Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan, a decade-long joint planning effort by the port of San Diego, the City of Chula Vista and a broad coalition of stakeholders.

Debuting in 2025, the property is intended to be the premier meeting, convention, and leisure resort on the US West Coast. The 1,600-room hotel, including 89 suites, rises 22-stories in a 240 ft tower with views of the San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

Amenities in the hotel include Relâche Spa & Salon, state-of the art fitness centre and recreational facilities.

A huge onsite 4.25-acre water park experience will feature waterslides, a lazy river, wave pool, giant water playground, surf simulator and multiple pools. The park will also house private cabanas and a pool bar.

The resort will contain nine restaurants and bars, including Old Hickory Steakhouse. a two–level sports bar, a hidden speakeasy and a marketplace.

Onsite work

The resort’s 487,913 sq ft convention centre is state-of-the-art and will contain flexible indoor and outdoor event spaces, restaurants and lounges, meeting rooms, elevated ballroom, and the largest exhibit hall in California, with dimensions of 520 x 300 ft.

Gaylord Chula Vista Resort & Convention Center will also boast three ballrooms, 62 breakout rooms, and an executive boardroom enhanced by state-of-the-art audiovisual technology, as well as immersive on-site experiences. Seven event lawns and terraces comprising 131,000 sq. ft. of outdoor space can host events, receptions, or meetings while enjoying Southern California weather.
