Architecturally striking and culturally significant, Equinox Hotel Los Angeles has deservedly been crowned our latest Project of the Week.

Showcasing the design excellence of Gehry Partners and Tara Bernerd & Partners, Equinox Hotel Los Angeles represents an important part of a vast mixed-use development.

A landmark scheme for LA

Already making a significant impression on Angelenos, the multi-phased master-planned development that Equinox Hotel will soon be part of aims to re-envision and revamp an underutilised area of the city. This development, known as The Grand, is adjacent to the Civic Center and key cultural institutions including The Museum of Contemporary Art, The Colborn School of Music and Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Drawing on its location, The Grand promises to be a dynamic fit for the cultural centre of LA. Acclaimed architect Frank Gehry’s architectural practice Gehry Partners has collaborated with developer VEL Development to create a scheme integrating more than 176,000 sq ft of retail space, a movie theatre, over 400 luxury residences and the 314-room Equinox Hotel. A large public plaza, meanwhile, will accommodate a series of landscaped open terraces.

Through its striking design, the development aims to continue LA’s tradition of creating landmarks that tell a story of the city’s identity as a creative capital. The Grand, the latest phase of The Grand Avenue Project, is the result of a collaborative public-private partnership guided by Los Angeles Grand Avenue Authority.

A new design destination

Travellers who wish to discover all that The Grand has to offer will be able to stay at the five-star Equinox Hotel, which will benefit from the interior architecture and design expertise of Tara Bernerd & Partners. Working closely with Gehry Partners, the firm will draw on the energy of the surrounding architectural landscape and the organic form of the structure that the hotel sits within for design inspiration.

In addition to its 314 guestrooms, the luxury property will also contain restaurants, bars and a pool terrace overlooking the Hollywood Hills. Equinox Hotel Los Angeles is currently expected to open in the first quarter of 2022.
