A peek inside the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database reveals that Wyndham Hotel Group has exciting expansion plans, especially in APAC and North America.

Wyndham Hotel Group is planning to open 65 new hotels with 19,000 rooms in the coming years, our research indicates. Here, we take a closer look at the company’s main growth areas.

Wyndham’s openings by year

In the second half of 2021, Wyndham is planning to launch 20 properties with 5,505 rooms – five schemes are already in the pre-opening phase. Next year, 26 projects and 9,588 keys are due for completion, followed by another seven hotels with 1,259 rooms in 2023. For 2024 and beyond, 12 more hotels with 2,648 keys are in the pipeline.

For now, Wyndham is focusing on expanding its luxury segment, with 53 of the 65 ongoing projects falling into the five-star category. The remaining 12 are in the four-star segment.

Key growth regions for Wyndham

Wyndham has got its sights set on growing rapidly in APAC – 39 new hotels with 12,963 keys are on the books here. This region is also home to two of the group’s top three national growth markets; China takes first spot with 20 launches and 4,737 new rooms, while Australia lands in third place with four ongoing projects and 758 keys.

The group is also expanding at pace in North America, where 15 projects and 3,009 rooms are in the works. No fewer than ten of these schemes are in the US, Wyndham’s second busiest national growth market.

Elsewhere, Latin America will soon welcome five new Wyndham schemes, while the group will add three properties apiece in Europe and Africa.

Wyndham’s fastest growing hotel brands

Across Wyndham’s varied portfolio, the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts brand stands out for its ambitious growth plans in the years ahead. It has a staggering 41 projects with 14,190 rooms in the pipeline currently.

The Wyndham Grand Hotels & Resorts and Tryp by Wyndham flags are also rapidly growing their global footprints, with 11 hotel schemes on the way for both – equating to 2,814 additional keys for the former and 1,722 rooms for the latter.

Noteworthy Wyndham openings to mark on your calendar

Thailand’s popular beachside destination of Pattaya will soon offer guests yet another attractive accommodation option. Wyndham Atlas Wongamat Pattaya will open on the country’s popular eastern seaboard in late 2021, featuring 192 rooms and suites, a restaurant, a lounge, a fitness centre and meeting space. This newbuild property will be crowned by a dramatic rooftop pool and garden with views of the sea.

Over in Turkey, construction of Wyndham Resort Iznik Feradis is well underway. This 120-room hotel will launch in early 2023 and offer guests stunning views of Iznik Lake, as well as plenty of opportunities to explore the surrounding countryside, or just relax at the onsite spa and pool.

Last but not least, we have to mention Sam Lord’s Castle Barbados – A Wyndham Grand Resort. This unique scheme will feature 450 rooms on the former site of Sam Lord’s Castle – famed for its links to 19th-century pirates – when it opens in Q1 2022. In terms of amenities, there’ll be three restaurants, 20,000 sq ft of meeting space, and a luxurious spa and fitness centre.
