Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Dwarka opened in April 2020

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchising company, has outlined plans to grow its footprint across the Indian subcontinent, not least by opening its first properties in Nepal and Bhutan.

Wyndham, which is headquartered in New Jersey, is in the midst of a major expansion drive in South Asia. We find out more about the company’s growing portfolio of properties in the region.

Bringing Wyndham to Bhutan and Nepal

Both Nepal and Bhutan have been attracting more international guests in recent years, making them increasingly attractive markets for global hotel companies. Now Wyndham has taken the plunge by unveiling proposals to launch its first properties in both countries.

Ramada by Wyndham Valley Thimpu will mark the group’s arrival in Bhutan when it opens in March 2021.

The property will offer 41 spacious rooms, many overlooking the majestic Himalayas. Set right by the Raidāk River, the hotel will be ideal for guests visiting the Tasichho Dzong, the giant statue of Buddha Dordenma, and the sacred Memorial Chorten site.

Meanwhile, Ramada Encore by Wyndham Kathmandu Thamel will be Wyndham’s first hotel in Nepal when it launches in August 2020.

Located in the city’s Thamel district, the centre of tourism in Kathmandu, the 90-room property will offer guests easy access to a variety of attractions. There will also be a rooftop providing scenic views over the city, which will no doubt appeal to guests after a long day of exploring the streets below.

India’s first Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham

Wyndham has also been increasing its inventory in India at some speed.

For example, the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham brand made its debut in the country in April 2020. Described as an eco-spiritual resort, the 202-room Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Dwarka is close to Dwarkadhish Temple, Dwarka Beach and Gomti Ghat, with generous outdoor areas and spacious facilities inviting guests to relax in nature-inspired surroundings.

Other noteworthy recent openings in the country include the 60-room Ramada by Wyndham Aligarh GT Road in the region of Uttar Pradesh and the 172-key Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Pune Hinjewadi in Maharashtra.

Nikhil Sharma, area director, Eurasia, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, said: “Over the last few years, Bhutan and Nepal have seen a steady increase in tourism, making them ideal destinations for us to expand into. What’s more, they perfectly complement the opportunity and uptick of the midscale market in India, which we’ve strengthened today with the introduction of our Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham brand.

“As the Indian subcontinent continues making waves in the hospitality industry, Wyndham remains laser-focused on tapping into its key markets and fulfilling our mission of making hotel travel possible for all.”
