Already a strong economy brand in the USA, and rolling out in other Asian markets, Wyndham's Microtel brand is now launching in India

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is to launch Microtel as its eighth hotel brand in India. The company has signed an exclusive local partnership that aims to deliver 40 hotels under the brand, over the next seven years.

A strategic development agreement has been signed with NILE Hospitality, an Indian development and hotel management company. Under the agreement, NILE will develop and operate franchised hotels under the Microtel banner, in tier two, three and four cities across India.

A land of opportunity

“We continue to see incredible opportunity in India, which is why we’re focusing our strategic efforts on introducing more of our diverse brands to the country,” said Dimitris Manikis, Wyndham’s president of EMEA. “Microtel is an ideal example of a brand that can be purpose-built for the market and with the continued collaboration with trusted partners like NILE Hospitality, we can quickly scale to meet growing demand.”

An economy segment brand, Microtel’s key features are a modern design, great service and a strong value-led offering. NILE’s new hotels will all have at least 50 guest rooms, as well as meeting and social spaces, a gym and other facilities depending on the exact location. It is expected the first new hotels will open during 2025, underlining the fast build out possible with the Microtel template.

Currently, there are 360 Microtel hotels globally, with 321 of those in North America. Across Asia Pacific, the brand is already rolling out in China, the Philippines, and has launched in New Zealand with its first hotel open there.

Wyndham will be aiming to get more and more Indian guests to sign up to the group’s Wyndham Rewards loyalty programme, as the group’s brands roll out across the country. Having developed what has been voted the sector’s best loyalty programme, Wyndham now sees over one third of bookings coming via Rewards, as the scheme connects users with more than 60,000 hotels around the world.

Wyndham already has a robust programme of expansion across India, featuring several other brands from its portfolio. With 60 hotels open and trading in the country, it expects to open a further 15 within the next 18 months.

Joining the brand portfolio

Among Wyndham’s other pipeline projects across India are several hotels preparing to open under its Wyndham Garden brand. First to open will be the Wyndham Garden Sonipat Murthal, a new build with 81 rooms. During 2025, it will open a 138 room hotel in Agra, and Wyndham Garden Charbagh in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Wyndham Grand is also building a presence in India, with the the 310 room Wyndham Grand Resort Jaipur Amer under construction, and a further landmark property, Wyndham Grand Udaipur Fateh Sagar Lake due to open in late 2025.
