This week’s Project of the Week is a new boutique hotel off the famed Park Lane, in London’s upmarket Mayfair district. The development will be a rare new build in the neighbourhood, with extra care taken to ensure it fits with its historic surroundings.

Thoughtful refurbishment

Located on Stanhope Row, a stone’s throw from Park Lane, the hotel was formerly a Hilton before changing hands to become a bed-and-breakfast style property. It will now be extensively refurbished and converted into an 82-room luxury property.

Bain Capital Special Solutions and Orka Investments Limited will be overseeing the project, with a hotel management partner yet to be announced.

The new Park Lane Mews Estate Hotel will feature a signature restaurant, lobby bar and cafe, and a private members’ space.

The development is located toward the bottom end of Park Lane and is close to other upmarket hotels including the Four Seasons, InterContinental and the Sheraton Grand.

Park Lane Mews Estate Hotel will also see the creation of 16 luxury residences across two restored townhouses on Hertford Street.

Prestigious location

“The opportunity to design and deliver a new hotel in Mayfair is a rare and privileged one,” said Timothy Shepherd, managing director at architects Buckley Gray Yeoman.

“We have approached the design with care and attention to detail to ensure it blends into the fabric of Mayfair society with effortless style.

“We envision the hotel becoming a classic within the London hotel market whilst demonstrating how retaining and restoring properties and constructing new buildings, where necessary, can unify sensitive and exceptional parts of London.”

The property will also be a “world-class, energy-efficient hotel”, according to Rafael Coste Campos, managing director of Bain Capital Special Situations. The project will aim for a BREEAM Excellent rating by retaining and refurbishing large parts of the existing building.

An opening date for the four-star hotel is yet to be announced.
