Abraj Omar Hotel & Residences redefines hospitality in Makkah, offering luxury accommodations with a spiritual touch, set to open in 2028

Continuing our series, this Project of the Week focuses on Abraj Omar Hotel & Residences by MGallery, a groundbreaking development by Alesayi Holding in Makkah. Located just 300 meters from the Masjid al-Haram, this new hotel project represents a blend of luxury, spirituality, and modern design and is scheduled for completion in 2028.

A New Era of Hospitality in Makkah

Abraj Omar spans over 60,000 square meters and features 200 luxury residential units and 280 hotel rooms, with a capacity to host up to 2,000 guests. Designed for comfort and serenity, the development caters to a diverse range of guests with accommodation options ranging from one-bedroom apartments to expansive penthouses offering sweeping views of the Holy Mosque. Every unit is designed with care, with over 70% of them equipped with dedicated personal assistant rooms to ensure a top-tier experience.

The project’s interior design, led by Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), focuses on creating an inviting and luxurious environment, while Gensler, the architect, has ensured the building seamlessly integrates with the sacred surroundings of Makkah.

Eng. Hani Habashy, CEO of Alesayi Holding, emphasizes the project’s commitment to blending modern luxury with the rich cultural and religious heritage of Makkah. “We are proud to offer a spiritual destination that inspires pilgrims and provides them with an elevated, luxurious stay,” he said, adding that Abraj Omar aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

Overcoming Design Challenges

The development faced several design challenges due to its prime location near the sacred mosque. The narrow site, uneven topography, and complex underground infrastructure required careful planning to optimize space while ensuring accessibility and comfort for all guests.

A standout feature is the building’s “veil”—a series of vertical limestone elements that not only enhance its aesthetic appeal, but also protect it from the harsh Makkah sun. This innovative design creates a dynamic play of light and shadow during the day, transforming into a captivating lighting feature at night, all while improving energy efficiency.

The design thoughtfully balances the needs of both pilgrims and residents, ensuring privacy while providing easy access to shared amenities, including direct connections to the Grand Mosque. Additionally, the incorporation of green spaces, water features, and wellness facilities creates a tranquil atmosphere, offering guests and residents spaces for reflection and rejuvenation.

Project Impact and Economic Contributions

With a projected investment exceeding SAR 2 billion and an estimated return of SAR 3.8 billion, Abraj Omar is set to be a major contributor to both the local economy and the tourism sector. The project stands as a testament to Alesayi Holding’s commitment to creating world-class developments that honor Makkah’s unique heritage and global significance.

In essence, Abraj Omar Hotel & Residences is more than just a luxury project; it is an experience that merges spirituality, culture, and cutting-edge design, offering a truly exceptional destination for those visiting Makkah.
