Marriott International’s EDITION adds its first West Coast location

The hotel, which deals heavily in luxury and glamour, has 140 guest rooms as well as 50 suites and is in the heart of West Hollywood, a historic area for the entertainment industry.
The West Hollywood EDITION is being billed as the first true luxury hospitality experience on the Sunset Strip, one which offers the excitement and energy of the cultural revolutions that took place there in the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘90s. It is unclear what happened there in the ‘80s.
Anyway, Ian Schrager is partnering with Marriott International on the property which will feature 140 guestrooms and 50 suites, as well as 20 residences that will sit high atop the property.
A new West Hollywood renaissance
As Los Angeles continues evolving into a world-class city for art, fashion, food and technology – in addition to maintaining its reign as the world’s entertainment capital – the spotlight is also shining on one of its iconic areas — West Hollywood.
Nestled between Beverly Hills and Hollywood, the small city was home to restaurants and nightclubs favoured by movie stars in the ‘30s and ‘40s.
Next, it was the Rat Pack’s stomping grounds in the ‘50s. The site where the hotel now sits was once occupied by the restaurant Scandia, where Frank Sinatra had a private office and his own shower upstairs. As a college student, Schrager himself witnessed its first renaissance in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s.
In 1996, Schrager led Sunset Boulevard’s second rebirth with the opening of the Mondrian, a hotel which defined the boutique hospitality category for the area.
Nearly a quarter-century later, he is returning with ambitions to drive a third renaissance with this new EDITION luxury urban resort, which is steeped in California’s history.
