Ulaman Eco Retreat combines eco-friendly design and green practices with a luxury wellbeing experience amid lush forests and picturesque paddy fields.

Entrepreneur Dino Magnatta partnered with architect Charlie Hearn, of Inspiral Architecture and Design Studios, to create this remarkable showcase of Balinese craftsmanship.

An eco-conscious hideaway

The July 2020-completed Ulaman Eco Retreat lies just 30 minutes from Ubud and Canggu in Kaba Kaba village. This luxury villa and wellness resort aims to deliver a holistic retreat experience in a sustainable environment.

The contemporary Balinese retreat, which features architecture and interior design by Inspiral Architecture and Design Studios, focuses on enhancing physical and emotional wellbeing by immersing guests into the beautiful surroundings. Among other standout elements, the resort boasts its own organic gardens, fruit trees and hand-carved Buddha on the side of a cliff.

Ulaman Eco Retreat is made entirely with bamboo and rammed earth walls, using materials found on the land and the talents of local craftsmen. All of the property’s power is then supplied by a hydro turbine system, fuelled by the nearby waterfall.

Luxury meets sustainability

This eco retreat accommodates up to 22 guests across eight luxury villas and one large three-bedroom property, which all come with a private oasis, balcony and infinity saltwater pool.

Each space incorporates air-conditioned guestrooms with king-size beds, custom furnishings, semi-outdoor bathrooms with a wooden bathtub and amenities such as flat-screen TVs. While staying here, travellers can also benefit from a private butler service, or take advantage of the spa services, meditation and yoga sessions, and excursions on foot or by bike through the paddy fields and into the local villages. Plus, they can take in the river and waterfall views from the retreat’s lounge net.

The culinary experience here ties in with the overall eco-conscious philosophy, with in-house chefs showcasing the produce of local farmers and suppliers. On top of this, the retreat contributes to Bali’s zero-waste initiatives by ensuring that all recycling, composting and natural cleaning regimens are environmentally responsible.
