Indian hotel group Treebo Hospitality Ventures has launched a new brand, Medalio. The premium brand will feature modern, elegant interiors designed to appeal as a reward for guests.
The first hotel to open under the brand is the 30 room Medalio Resort Udaipur Shobhagpura. Designed to offer a premium experience, it offers luxury accommodation and includes a swimming pool in a garden setting, as well as a spa. Medalio will target signings of smaller hotels, in the range of around 20 to 50 rooms.
Expanding via several routes to market
The move comes shortly after Treebo celebrated the launch of the Park Inn & Suites by Radisson in Thrissur, the first property to open under its master franchise partnership with Radisson Hotel Group. Between them, the two companies are aiming to launch up to 150 Park Inn & Suites hotels across India, over the next decade. A site in Guruvayur is already in the works.
“India is going through an unprecedented reshaping of the income pyramid,” said Sidharth Gupta, Co-founder & CEO of Treebo Hotel Ventures. “By 2030, there will be an additional 65 million households that will have joined the upper middle-income segment. Together, these households will represent 52% of all consumption that happens in the country up from about 35% today. This made a compelling case for us to expand from the economy segment to the mid-market segment.”
For Medalio, THV will target destinations such as Chandigarh, Delhi, Gangtok and Prayagraj. “Asset owners having smaller properties of less than 50 keys have so far had limited options to partner with a brand,” said Gupta. “This is what we are looking to change with Medalio.”
Treebo began life as a budget hotel aggregator, and drew in funding from private backers and even, in 2021, from French hotel giant Accor. It launched three hotel brands, Trip, Trend and Tryst initially, and today offers travellers the option of booking into more than 1,000 hotels across over 120 cities.
More recently, the offering has been honed with the core hotels now arranged under Treebo and Treebo Premium. As well as the new Medalio, the brand portfolio includes the Itsy brand, a budget-friendly offering designed for the Gen Z traveller, with compact rooms, free wifi and a complimentary breakfast.
A support for Radisson
Aside from its partnership with Treebo on the Park Inn brand, Radisson is expanding other brands from its portfolio across India. Recent openings have included the Radisson Resort Hatgad Saputara in western India. For the group’s Radisson Individuals collection brand there have been additions of the Grand Mirage Dhanbad, and Namah Nainital hotel in Uttarakhand.
In recent months, it has added signings including a novel Radisson Blu hotel to be located at Nathdwara Stadium Rajasthan, which will be India’s first cricket stadium hotel. Ideal for cricket fans, three quarters of the rooms will have a view of the pitch in the stadium.
