Outrigger Resorts has added its fourth resort property in Thailand, with the acquisition of the Zeavola Resort.
Located in the extreme north of Phi Phi island, Zeavola will shortly undergo a complete renovation, upgrading both the guest rooms and common areas. Once that is complete, the property will come to life once more with 63 suites and villas, with a relaunch in October 2025.
Delivering relaxation close to nature
The transformation process will align the resort with Outrigger’s true brand themes, which the company says are “barefoot luxury with meaningful cultural experiences and environmental stewardship”. The aim is that guests can enjoy a luxury break away from normal life, while in a relaxed island environment. A beautiful white sand beach is just a short walk away, inviting a swim or paddle in the Andaman Sea’s emerald green water.
The reopened Zeavola resort will join an Outrigger inventory that includes three other Thai properties, located in Koh Samui, Khao Lak and Surin Beach, Phuket. Its relaunch will come almost exactly one year after Outrigger’s most recent property launch, the opening of Outrigger Waikiki Paradise hotel in Hawaii. Reimagined as a “craft hotel”, the 443 room property was rebranded to deliver an escape embedded in local culture, with contributions from a variety of local artists.
Outrigger Resorts is one of three brands offered by Outrigger Hospitality Group, which began as a business more than 65 years ago in Hawaii. Alongside the Outrigger Resorts brand are Ohana Hotels, and Hawaii Vacation Condos. Today, the group has a total of 38 properties and 6,500 rooms open or in the pipeline. Operating today, it has 15 full service beach resorts in locations including Hawaii, Australia, Fiji, Guam, Thailand, Mauritius, and the Maldives.
The Ohana brand represents great value, family style accommodation and is currently trading at three Waikiki properties, all within walking distance to Waikiki Beach. And the Hawaii Vacation Condos brand has 15 resort properties across Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii Island. Each offers condos or villas with accommodation oriented for families or groups staying together, promising a great base from which to enjoy the beaches and landscapes of Hawaii.
Staying close to its Hawaiian roots
Another upcoming addition to the Outrigger portfolio will see the company regaining operational control of a property it first managed in the 1990s. Returning to the fold will be the Kauai Beach Resort & Spa, with the 315 room resort having a planned relaunch in late 2026, following refurbishment.
Originally family owned, the business grew under control of the Kelley family, who focused on building their Hawaii-based business. But in 2016, the brand was acquired by KSL Capital Partners, whose investment has allowed the Outrigger name and its brands to grow internationally. In addition to operating properties under its own brands, the broader Outrigger Hospitality Group also manages a number of other hotel and resort properties. These trade under brands including Best Western, Embassy Suites, Wyndham Vacation Ownership and Hilton Grand Vacations.
