Fairmont’s upcoming hotel in the fast-developing Chinese city of Xiamen has taken out THP.News’ Project of the Week title for this week. The luxury hotel will be designed by the famed British architectural firm Foster + Partners, and is set to become a key feature of the Xiamen skyline.

Xiamen Airlines and Accor team up

Accor, which owns the Fairmont brand, has joined forces with Xiamen Airlines to bring Fairmont Xiamen to Fujian Province. The hotel will be the first Fairmont in the Fujian Province.

Gary Rosen, Accor’s CEO in Greater China, said the Fairmont Xiamen would become a “global star” in the company’s flagship lineup.

Accor will be the first international hospitality group to bring a new luxury hotel to the market with Xiamen Airlines.

Big names on board

Several top-tier designers have signed on to the project, including the world-famous Pritzker winning firm Foster + Partners, as well as hospitality interior design specialists Cheng Chung Design. American firm SWA Group will be handling the urban landscape design.

Fairmont Xiamen will span over 31 floors, and is due to be part of the Cross Strait Financial Center in the newly developed Wutong high-end business zone.

The hotel will be centrally located, in the Huli district in the northeast part of Xiamen Island. Fairmont Xiamen will be just 10 minutes from the International Conference and Exhibition Center, 15 minutes from Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and half an hour from Xiamen North Railway Station.

Xiamen builds pace

Xiamen is an economic powerhouse which is quickly becoming a favourite of entrepreneurs, developers and tourists. It’s one of the fastest developing and most prosperous cities in China, with the demand for high-end accommodation increasing as a result.
