Beaches Resorts, part of the Sandals Resorts business, has announced its plans to invest nearly USD1 billion in expanding the brand’s portfolio.
The Beaches brand, which was established in 1997 as a family friendly option for those seeking a resort stay, launched with two properties. Beaches Negril, in Jamaica, and Beaches Turks and Caicos set the standard for families seeking a premium experience with all-in pricing.
A trio of new resort properties
During its Made of Caribbean launch event, held in New York in March 2025, the company outlined its new projects. There will be a new Beaches in Barbados, plus resorts to come in Exuma, The Bahamas and an additional site in Jamaica, at Runaway Bay.
“As a family from the Caribbean, we have a deep love for our islands, and it’s incredibly gratifying to draw inspiration from our guests,” said Adam Stewart, executive chairman of Beaches Resorts. “We know that now, more than ever, families are prioritising connection and seeking enriching, multigenerational vacations. We are committed to not only meeting this demand but going above and beyond to wow them with new product offerings and provide unforgettable shared experiences.”
On Barbados, sister brand Sandals already operates two successful resorts, Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados. These will be joined by Beaches Barbados, which will have 600 rooms to welcome guests. The look of the resort will be a take on Caribbean Georgian style, with a main street through the project that will feature a variety of food and beverage, and shopping choices. Work will start on the development later in 2025.
In the Bahamas, the group will converting the existing Sandals Emerald Bay into the Beaches format. Beaches Exuma will see the property’s 249 rooms refreshed and modified to provide a mix of accommodation more suited to families and groups. The designs include a dozen restaurants, splash park and kid’s camp. For the grown-ups, there will be the option of a round at Emerald Bay Golf Course.
Developing family-oriented accommodation
And on the north coast of Jamaica, Beaches Runaway Bay is being planned. Around 400 suites and villas, each with one to four bedrooms, will be developed on the site between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. Aside from the nearby championship golf course, there will be facilities for skateboarding, cycle trails and a treehouse for those who like to climb.
At the Beaches Turks and Caicos Resort, further accommodation is being added, in the form of 101 new units, all designed for families, and featuring two, three or four bedrooms. The Treasure Beach Village expansion takes the resort to 858 rooms in total. The development overlooks Grace Bay and features a food hall style f&b offering, plus a 32 seat cinema – just the thing for family bonding.
