Accor has 161 hotel projects and 35,161 rooms scheduled to launch next year, including this trio of eye-catching schemes involving the Softel, SO/ and MGallery brands.

Three of the most exciting openings planned for 2022 will see the French hospitality group make its mark in China, Mexico and Kenya.

Sofitel Zhangjiajie Ningbang, China

In collaboration with Ningbang Group, Accor’s developing this new Sofitel hotel, as well as a Novotel property, within the Zhangjiajie Ningbang Plaza mixed-use project. On opening in the third quarter, it’ll embody the contemporary French lifestyle that Sofitel’s known for delivering around the world, with a view to attracting both Chinese guests and international visitors to Hunan province.

The 400-key Sofitel Zhangjiajie Ningbang will encompass an array of amenities, including an all-day dining venue, Chinese and specialty restaurants, an executive lounge and bar, a lobby lounge, a spa with indoor pool, a 1,800 sq m ballroom and accompanying function rooms. XL Studio is behind the architectural design of this five-star hotel, which is currently being built.

SO/ Los Cabos Hotel & Residences, Mexico

On opening in late 2022, SO/ Los Cabos Hotel & Residences on the Baja California Peninsula will provide a luxurious and fashionable retreat on 7.5 acres of beautiful beachfront. SB Architects is responsible for the architecture at this striking newbuild hotel, which will be distinguished by its daring design aesthetic.

Guests can expect to find stylish interiors that provide the setting for the luxury hotel brand’s signature services, lively social events and entertainment. Currently under construction, this glamorous sanctuary will ultimately be home to 200 guestrooms and 36 residences with beach and ocean views. Amenities will include a rooftop destination home to two modern restaurants, an ocean-view lounge, five swimming pools, the SO/ Spa wellness area, the SO/ Fit fitness centre and 7,500 sq ft of indoor-outdoor event space, while visitors will also have access to an adjacent 18-hole Nicklaus Design golf course.

MGallery Gigiri, Nairobi

Billed as Nairobi’s first MGallery property when it was announced back in August 2019, this design-led boutique hotel in the city’s affluent Gigiri district is now under construction ahead of opening in the second quarter of 2022. It’s being created in partnership with one of the region’s leading conglomerates, Jit Group.

The 105-key MGallery Gigiri will be home to four restaurants, including an all-day dining establishment, signature culinary experience, pool bar, and rooftop restaurant and bar. These will be joined by impressive wellness facilities encompassing a spa, pool and gym, plus multiple meeting spaces and a business centre. The interiors are being designed by Sundukovy Sisters, which is drawing inspiration from Jit Group’s jewel, gemstone and precious metal business and its location close to Karura Forest and the Nairobi River.
