Mexico is the country set to welcome the most new hotels and Mexico City leads in the cities welcoming the most properties over the coming years.
Regional hospitality growth
LATAM is currently on track to seeing 465 four- and five-star hotels open, with 112,893 rooms between them, across the region. Of these projects, 214 fall into the four-star category and 251 are to have five-star status.

Mexico will benefit from 124 hotel openings, Brazil will welcome 55 new properties and Colombia is to cater for travellers with 35 new hotels across the country.
Mexico City is the leading city welcoming projects, with 13 hotel openings, altogether comprising 1,984 rooms. Tulum will see 12 openings with 1,688 rooms and Lima will welcome 11 hotels with 2,020 rooms.
Exciting new luxury retreats
Highlights of this hospitality growth include the early 2024 opening Six Senses Formosa Bay and the early 2023 opening W Sâo Paulo, both in Brazil.
The 191-key Six Senses Formosa Bay is a part of the Eco Estrela Project, formerly home to a coconut plantation, spanning 6,350 acres and stretching along almost seven kilometres of Atlantic Ocean beachfront.
The property is split into three groups of guest facilities featuring dining options, bars and a pool. The spa here will encompass single and double treatment rooms along with a steam room, sauna and hammam.
Activities on the waterway and within the land’s mangrove will include sailing and kayaking.
The 179-key W São Paulo will then bring together the brand’s signature WOW Suites, and one Extreme WOW Suite, two restaurants including a rooftop venue and the Living Room lobby bar.
These amenities will be joined by the state-of-the-art FIT centre and expansive WET Deck with pool. Meetings and events will be hosted in 1,500 sq ft of space. This property will place guests within the Vila Olímpia business district of São Paulo.
