Omni outlines Mexican debut

Omni Hotels & Resorts is heading to Mexico for the first time with a US$225 million development in Punta de Mita.

Set to open in summer 2026, Omni Pontoque Resort at Punta de Mita has already officially broken ground.

Local homage

The beachfront resort will feature 244 guestrooms and suites as well as two four-bedroom villas with Pacific Ocean views. The resort will pay homage to the local culture rooted in the location’s natural surroundings.

Omni Hotels & Resorts is developing the resort in collaboration with a team of seasoned hospitality professionals, including The Beck Group, Farouki Farouki, Girvin Associates Inc, HKS Architects, Robert Glazier Architects and Waldrop & Nichols Studio.

Beach home feel

Exterior and interior designs are locally inspired with a contemporary twist, evoking a residential feel that should create comfort and familiarity.

Taking cues from the resort’s jungle and ocean surroundings, the design inspiration leans heavily on clean architectural lines embellished with a mix of stone, wood and metals, resembling a modern beach home.

Dining and leisure

The resort will offer three original restaurant and bar concepts, as well as casual dining options.

Furthermore, Omni Pontoque will showcase a destination spa with 14 treatment rooms for wellness experiences and salon services, two retail shops, multiple pools throughout the property including adult-only and family-friendly options, a state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor fitness centre and a kids club.

Events areas

Boasting over 27,000 sq ft of meeting and event space, the Omni Pontoque will offer a 6,000 sq ft ballroom and dedicated meeting rooms each with event lawns and pre-function options with both jungle and ocean views.

Additionally, an open-air event pavilion will stand apart from the resort for privacy, with an indoor-outdoor concept for special events.

New chapter

Kurt Alexander, president of Omni Hotels & Resorts, said: “The Omni Pontoque Resort at Punta de Mita marks an exciting new chapter for Omni as we further elevate our brand by expanding into this premier destination.

“We look forward to giving our guests access to the property’s unique and exclusive surroundings and culture, while bringing Omni’s service and experiences to the area.”

US expansion

Back in Omni’s home US market, it is planning several new additions to its portfolio.

These include Omni Hotel Fort Lauderdale, an 800-key property due for delivery to Florida in Q1 2026; Omni Ernest N Morial Convention Center Hotel, a 600-room site taking shape in New Orleans, Louisiana, for 2026; and Omni Raleigh Hotel, bringing 550 keys to North Carolina in 2027.
