IHG Hotels & Resorts is planning a newbuild Crowne Plaza hotel in a coveted location along Mexico City’s famed Avenida de los Insurgentes.

Scheduled to break ground in early 2024 ahead of a planned 2026 opening, Crowne Plaza Mexico City Insurgentes will serve as a regional halo property for the brand and will join a roster of seven currently open Mexico properties.

Premium amenities

Crowne Plaza Mexico City Insurgentes will provide a host of premium amenities and flexible workspaces to welcome business, leisure and blended travellers.

Each of the hotel’s 230 rooms will include ample and modern spaces for a seamless transition between productivity and relaxation, with the brand’s signature Plaza Workspace – a bundle of adaptive meeting areas and private soundproof booths in the hotel’s public area that support individual and collaborative productivity – available to guests and the general public. Guests can also access the hotel’s scenic rooftop bar and dine at a to-be-named restaurant concept.

Bleisure design

Paul Adan, regional SVP, development – Latin America and the Caribbean for IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “Today’s travellers expect the flexibility to easily transition their stay between business and leisure. We’ve elevated the Crowne Plaza design to provide the space and services for guests and locals seeking a modern environment to engage and recharge.

“Our new location along the highly visible and well-travelled Avenida de los Insurgentes is a perfect fit for Crowne Plaza, and we look forward to reintroducing this premium brand to Mexico City.”

Project partners

IHG will collaborate with owner Fideicomiso 1870/2014 and designer Interaq on Crowne Plaza Mexico City Insurgentes’ blueprint, construction and operational plans.

Felix Jafif, president, Fideicomiso 1870/2014, commented: “Mexico City remains a popular destination for travellers of all kinds. With the modern shift to more blended travel, we’re confident that Crowne Plaza’s flexible design and proven reputation will make this hotel a welcome addition to our city. We look forward to working with IHG Hotels & Resorts on a successful build and opening.”

Accelerated growth

Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts has more than 520 open or in pipeline properties in major global cities and resort locations.

The brand’s accelerated growth plan includes the renovation of three-fourths of its existing Americas estate by 2025 and the addition of more than 120 new global hotels. In Mexico this will also encompass a rebranding project which will result in the 120-key Crowne Plaza Chihuahua.
