A huge list of winners of the New London Awards were announced in the British capital’s famous Guildhall on July 4th. Among the winners was the striking new Nobu Hotel in EC2. We find out more about this spectacular project.

Nobu Hotel on top form

The announcement of this year’s winners of the New London Awards took place at the beginning of the month, with a keynote speech by London mayor Sadiq Khan in the city’s Guildhall. The awards honour the best building’s built in London over the past year, and among the notable winners were London Bridge Station by Grimshaw, Walthamstow Wetlands in the People’s Choice category, and of course, the Nobu Hotel in Hotels and Hospitality category. The hotel was designed by Ben Adams Architects and Ron Arad Architects for Willow Corp.

A winning project

TOPHOTELNEWS previously reported on the stunning design of one of Noby Hotels’ latest foray into the world of hospitality in Shoreditch, London. The client had called for a “beautiful hotel with state of the art facilities, as well as the provision of a variety of guest rooms and luxury apartments, and a high end eatery.” Ben Adams Architects delivered with an architecturally innovative building that both stands out from and complements its iconic surroundings in London’s lively Shoreditch area. The architects say, “This design marries the creative energy of the location with Nobu’s values of simple luxury with a façade that fragments at the eastern end and descends into a welcome new pocket park, overlooked by the warehouses of Great Eastern Street to the North.”

British, Asian and local influences

The most attention-grabbing aspect of the Nobu Hotel is its design. The volume is set on a strip of land in one of the city’s most vibrant areas, and echoes this in its eclectic design, which employs the use of terracing, unusual angles and a banded facade to help it stand out from the crowd. The hotel’s website reads, “Instinctive and informal, Nobu Hotel Shoreditch delivers a captivating and unique escape with the perfect balance of luxury, fun, craft and theater. Offering 148 thoughtfully designed guestrooms and suites and unveiling London’s newest Nobu Restaurant, the design blends the raw creative energy of East London with the understated luxury of Nobu. Positioned both physically and emotionally between the energy of East London’s cultural district and the economic centre of the City, our guests can find the balance they seek of a fresh and vibrant lifestyle. Here, our ability to draw our guests into a world of experiential luxury begins with rituals both seen and unseen. We use Asian-inspired and London-infused sights, sounds, scents and experiences to engage and delight our guests from their moment of arrival.”
