New Marriott hotel in Taghazout Bay in the works
Hotel giant Marriott is in the construction stages of a new property in Taghazout Bay, Agadir, Morocco. The beachfront resort is part of a wider mixed-use development that will revolutionize this popular tourist destination.
Marriott in Morocco
A sprawling new development in the much-visited tourist city of Agadir, located at the foot of Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, will feature a new Marriott hotel, the Marriott Hotel Taghazout Bay. The new-build hotel and resort will be a 250-key property fronting onto the aquamarine waters of the Atlantic ocean, taking advantage of the natural conditions of the sea that are perfect for surfing. The Marriott Hotel Taghazout Bay will be a luxury resort with all the modern amenities you would expect from a Marriott property, including spa and gym, all-day dining as well as a speciality restaurant serving delicious local and international cuisine, a themed bar, pool bar, and meeting and conference facilities that include a large ballroom for events. Designed by hospitality experts Wilson Associates, who are based in Dubai, the hotel’s design was inspired by Taghazout Bay’s wild and imposing scenery, as well as the traditional craftsmanship that Morocco is renowned for, which has been subtly incorporated into the interior design, as well as furniture and decorative elements. The resort’s architecture and interior design takes advantage of Taghazout Bay’s temperate climate, which allows the internal and external spaces to be integrated so that spaces flows from inside to outside. Guests will feel refreshed and revitalised after their stay in this incredible resort which merges nature and luxury seamlessly into one relaxing experience.
A new dawn for Taghazout Bay
The Marriott project will form part of an expansive new proposal that will transform Taghazout Bay. The large mixed-use development is being helmed by Société d’Aménagement et de Promotion de la Station de Taghazout (SAPST), who have developed a masterplan for the area which will include seven different hotels, an 18-hole golf course suitable for professional use, a number of retail centers for the days when guests want to indulge in a bit of retail therapy, an amusement park perfect for entertaining the kids, a museum dedicated to the native Argan Tree, and a surf camp to entice travelers to try out Morocco’s the famous surf getaway. The masterplan will also be home to its very own surf village, traditional Moroccan medina and a beach club. To the rear of the waterfront, golf courses will be located behind the hotels, as well as a tennis academy and nature reserves for some respite from the beach scene. The development will form part of the Moroccan National Tourism Strategy “Vision 2020,” whose aim is to promote tourism in the area while at the same time preserving the amazing natural resources of the coastal area at Taghazout Bay.
