We find out more about this enviable destination bar.
New destination bar reaches dizzy heights in Bangkok
SkyBars are all the rage these days, and have been for a while, so it’s perhaps no surprise that the hottest new F&B offering in the Thai capital of Bangkok is also the most out of reach – literally. The Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar is located on the 76th and 77th floors of one of Bangkok’s most famous towers, the King Power Mahanakhon. The skyscraper opened in 2016 and was one of the most talked about buildings in the city, offering citizens and tourists alike a mix of uses, and of course, some of the best views in the city. This is something that the owners naturally wanted to capitalise on, and what better way to do that than to create one of the most enchanting F&B destinations in the city.
Marc Begassat, Managing Director of King Power Mahanakhon, said, “Following the successful launch of Thailand’s highest observation deck last November, it is a pleasure to announce the opening of Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar, Thailand’s highest restaurant and bar. This new milestone is a result of our passion in creating an exceptional dining destination and key landmark within a location that truly celebrates the city. We look forward to welcoming local and international visitors to King Power Mahanakhon as we continue to add unique attractions to Thailand’s tourism landscape.”
Local inspiration and flavours
Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar’s mission was simple, and their website elaborates on this, saying, “The vision from the beginning was to create an inviting space for people to stay and revisit frequently, and not just simply become a one-time destination.” With this in mind, the team has created an eating and drinking experience that can be enjoyed among an interior that is inspired by the eclecticism of the Chao Phraya river married with French elegance and Thai motifs. Diners are greeted with a decorative wood panelled entrance, and progress through the space on a journey that recalls international adventures evoked through thoughtfully curated artworks.
“The eclectic, yet elevated nature of this oasis in the clouds mirrors the style that our team is known around the world for bringing to our work,” said Tristan Auer, the designer behind the SkyBar. “Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar was designed to be equal parts welcoming and energetic, and we are honored to have been selected as the team to bring that vision to life.”
