A recent announcement by veteran hotel group JHM Hotels will see them retire their famous family brand name and instead create four new companies that will be operated by various family members. The original hotel group began in 1973 with the purchase of the Sunset Motel, and in the many years since its inception, the group has grown to operate over 400 hotels worldwide, mainly in the US but also as far afield as India. D.J. Rama, former president of JHM Hotels, gave an impassioned statement about the group’s history and the legacy it has within their family. “Since my uncle, H.P. Rama, purchased the modest Sunset Motel in 1973, and was subsequently joined by my father, J.P., and uncles M.P., the late D.P., and R.P. Rama, JHM Hotels has grown into one of the largest, privately owned, hospitality companies in the country, currently comprised of nearly 40 hotels with approximately 7,200 rooms across seven states and India. During that time, the company has built or acquired nearly 100 hotels affiliated with some of the top national brands. From our adopted home of Greenville, S.C., our forefathers have built an impressive portfolio and an even more impressive reputation. The future is bright for each of the new entities, and we expect a seamless transition for our hotels and our associates.”
The move will see the hotel group split into four new independent hotel companies, something which will herald a new dawn for the family and create new opportunities for the new generation of hoteliers that bear the Rama name. The creation of these new hotel brands is designed to continue the family legacy and to allow for more individualism and control over their brand for each member who will go on to form this next phase of JHM Hotels. The family members who are taking on the new companies will still uphold the traditional values upon which JHM was founded, namely integrity, reliability, balance and corporate citizenship, and the existing portfolio will be spread across the four new brands, but growth will be a key concern for every new entity, whether it be in hotel management, development or operations.
The four new entities are listed below:
- Auro Hotels Principal, based in Greenville, SC
- Sima Hotels, based in Orlando, FL
- Sarona Holdings Principa, based in Orlando, FL
- Siddhi Hotel Group Principal, based in Greenville, SC
