Hyatt goes big in India
Hyatt Hotels has its sights set on India for 2019, with a massive planned expansion in the country.
Hyatt plans to add another 1,000 rooms to its existing Indian portfolio, which will reach approximately 8,000 rooms in 32 properties in 20 cities across the nation.
This plan is part of Hyatt’s growth strategy for the new year, which will focus heavily on India with the Hyatt Centric brand, as well as the Two Roads portfolio, will be developed and integrated this year.
Among the planned properties are the Hyatt Regency Kochi Malayattoor (100 keys), Grand Hyatt Gurgaon (442 keys), Hyatt Centric Candolim Goa (167 keys), Hyatt Regency Dharamshala Resort (89 keys) and Hyatt Regency Jaipur Mansarovar (250 keys).
Boom nation India
India is set to provide a fertile ground for the expansion of the Hyatt brand, owing in large part to the growth of its tourism sector.
“The hotel industry is in a very interesting state. 2018 has been very good. It is a year where we saw a lot of progress and consolidation. We think it was good platform for the years to come because hospitality, as an industry, has really grown and so have the supporting industries such as aviation,” said Sharma.
He added that Airbnb has had a positive effect on the tourism industry, saying, “It is something that will help the business at large. We are doing what we have to do to create those experiences and get our guests to have that loyalty with us.”
Future is Hyatt Centric
Sharma said Hyatt is focusing on its Hyatt Centric and Two Roads brands. “Our Hyatt Centric brand is big part of our strategy. We will have another Hyatt Centric coming up in Goa, then a significant opening in Gurgaon,” he said.
“We also have integration of our Two Roads portfolio that we have just signed up. So, we will have two hotels coming into our fold from there — Alila Bishangarh and Alila Goa. So, growth is going to be very significant next year,” Sharma added, reiterating that Hyatt will benefit from the upsurge in domestic tourism as well as continued support from international travelers.
