Rooted in history, designed for tomorrow: Regent Kyoto brings a new vision of luxury to life

IHG Hotels & Resorts and GI Capital Management recently held a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the construction start for the new Regent Kyoto. Set to open in 2028, this new luxury property will represent the epitome of modern upper luxury, blending timeless heritage and awe-inspiring design.

James Lee, Managing Partner/CEO, GI Capital Management Ltd., said, “The groundbreaking ceremony is a special day for the team and a wonderful milestone for Kyoto. We are proud to bring the Regent brand to life, reflecting the timeless beauty of Kyoto, in this serene, beautiful, and historic location in partnership with IHG.”

A legacy reimagined: The design story of Regent Kyoto

Regent Kyoto will be thoughtfully designed around a historic garden originally landscaped over a century ago by renowned gardener Kumakichi Kato. Blending timeless Japanese aesthetics with contemporary sensibilities, the hotel will offer 83 elegantly appointed rooms, world-class facilities, and an experience defined by sophistication and understated grandeur.

Hotel highlights include:

  • Prime Location in Okazaki | Nestled in one of Kyoto’s most prestigious districts and surrounded by historic villas and cultural landmarks.
  • Historic Tsuruya Restaurant | This century-old ryotei has hosted dignitaries, nobles, and members of the imperial family, and remains one of Kyoto’s most celebrated dining destinations.
  • Unmatched Cultural Proximity | Just steps from iconic sites including the Kyoto Imperial Palace, Heian Shrine, and Nanzen-ji Temple.
  • Elegantly Designed Guest Rooms | Each of the 83 rooms features a refined interpretation of the traditional engawa space.
  • Fusion of Heritage and Innovation | A harmonious blend of historic architectural elements and contemporary design, rooted in local tradition yet globally attuned.

Regent Hotels & Resorts joined IHG Hotels & Resorts in 2018, reimagining a new era for the legendary luxury brand. Across Japan, IHG has 54 hotels in operation across 10 brands, with 17 hotels in the pipeline.
