First Miami Hospitality Design Awards brings together the cream of the crop
The first ever installment of the Miami Hospitality Design Awards will take place at the Faena Hotel Miami Beach on March 6th 2017. This inaugural event will see the industry’s brightest and best architects and designers gather together to vy for titles across the spectrum of hospitality design. The venue itself is one of pioneering design, taking notes from its predecessor in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the lavish interiors of which was designed by eminent enfant terrible Philippe Starck. Its sister property in Miami channels 1950’s glamour and oozes the essence of the Florida city out of every pore. Responsible for its conceptualization were creative visionaries Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, and famed architect Rem Koolhaas has designed the Faena Arts Centre Miami Beach, which opened late last year.
The awards will cover a range of categories, including Best Hotel, Best Lobby/Reception, Best Restaurant, Best Guestroom and Best Guest Suite, Best Hotel Retail Space, Best Overall People’s Choice Hotel Project and Best Outdoor Hotel Divine Detail. There are also a number of non-hotel categories that applicants can put themselves in the running for, namely Non-Hotel Nightclub/Bar/Lounge, Non-Hotel Restaurant Upscale, Non-Hotel Restaurant Fast Casual and Best Overall People’s Choice Non-Hotel Nightclub, Bar, Lounge, Restaurant. Entrants can submit a maximum of 5 hotels per category, so the competition is surely set to be high.
Miami has continued to thrive over the past few years, seeing a steady stream of development in both tourism and residential sectors. New constructions require new teams of architects and designers, and the established names from architecture to fashion design have placed their stamp on new properties in the area. The Miami Hospitality Design Awards is held in collaboration with two organisations that support and foster local design: the Greater Miami & Beaches Hotel Association (GMBHA) and the American Institute of Architects Miami Chapter (AIA Miami) and is sponsored by Hospitality Design.
