Keen to ensure it maintains a leading position in the extended stay space, Choice Hotels has opened its 500th property

Choice Hotels International has reached a milestone in the growth of its portfolio, opening its 500th extended stay hotel.

The property that enabled Choice to hit the target is the Everhome Suites property in Glendale, Arizona. The hotel is close to demand sources including a local university campus, stadium, casino and Luke Air Force Base.

Suited to local needs

With 122 rooms, Everhome Suites Glendale was developed by Highside Companies, and is managed by Superhost Hospitality. The specification is tailored specifically to the needs of guests staying for longer than a typical hotel booking. Rooms have fully equipped kitchens, with large closets and spa-style bathrooms. The hotel features a fitness centre, and laundry facilities, while there are also outdoor spaces including barbecue grills and fire pits.

Choice has been expanding its extended stay offering, and today claims leadership in the economy and midscale segments of the extended stay market in the USA. It now has the fastest growing economy extended stay portfolio, with more than 350 hotels signed into its development pipeline.

“Reaching 500 open extended stay properties is a testament to our strategic focus on this high growth category, proven extended stay hotel operating model, and tried and true brand prototypes, all of which make Choice’s expertise the best in the industry,” said Patrick Pacious, president and CEO of Choice Hotels International. “As we continue to grow, we’re committed to working with developers to deliver high-quality, cost-effective properties that provide an excellent long-staying guest experience and unparalleled financial returns.”

Choice has four extended stay brands: Everhome Suites, WoodSpring Suites, Suburban Studios, and MainStay Suites. Of these, Everhome is the newcomer, with Glendale being the sixth site to open – ahead of a strong signed pipeline of 65 sites. Of those, 20 are already under construction and more than 15 are expected to open within a year, providing Everhome with considerable momentum.

Building across four brands

The group’s more established brands are also growing fast, with 13 Mainstay Suites and Suburban Studios opened in the first three quarters of 2024. Woodspring Suites will also see a record year, expecting to have 25 new openings in full year 2024.

Choice says its momentum is down to a close relationship with developers, who appreciate the efficiency of the group’s extended stay designs, while owners and operators can run properties using a lean staffing model that lowers operational costs and improves returns. In addition to new builds, Choice has tailored its Mainstay and Suburban designs to suit conversions, so that often a property can be switched within four months. Innovations include a ‘kitchen and lobby in a box’ which allows for swifter installation to meet the new brand standards.
