IHG will launch 172 hotel schemes with 36,478 guestrooms next year, according to our data, including a trio of eye-catching InterContinental, Six Senses and Kimpton projects.

Newbuild developments in Washington, Switzerland and Grenada make the cut in our roundup of the hospitality company’s most exciting hotel openings in 2022.

InterContinental Bellevue at The Avenue, Washington

The new InterContinental property in Bellevue, Washington is expected to open in the third quarter of 2022 as part of the Avenue Bellevue development, which comprises two towers featuring a 252-room hotel, 332 luxury residences and 85,000 sq ft of high-end retail, restaurants and nightlife venues. One of the dining options will be called Angler, headed up by three-Michelin-star chef Joshua Skenes.

IHG is creating InterContinental Bellevue at The Avenue in partnership with developer Fortress Development. HBA – LA is designing this hotel’s interiors, and is also contributing to the architecture alongside Weber Thompson and CollinsWoerman, while Benchmark has been lined up to manage.

The under-construction hotel is located at the epicentre of downtown Bellevue, occupying the first 11 floors of the 26-storey south tower. Besides the 252 guestrooms, there’ll be two bars and a restaurant from the team behind Buddakan NYC, as well as a spa, a fitness centre, a business centre and 14,250 sq ft of event space – including grand and junior ballrooms.

Six Senses Crans-Montana, Switzerland

Six Senses Crans-Montana is set to open in early 2022 as the luxury brand’s first resort in Switzerland. AW² and JP Emery & Partners Architecture are overseeing the architectural and interior design of this sustainability-minded scheme, which benefits from its proximity to an array of outdoor activities, a significant wellness offering and ski-in, ski-out access.

The resort will feature 47 guestrooms and suites, with no fewer than 17 Six Senses residential units made available to buy. There’ll also be two restaurants, a sun terrace, a bar, retail space, a 22,000 sq ft spa offering alpine treatments, a gym, a fitness studio, a pool and a ‘suspended relaxation area’.

Kimpton Kawana Bay Grenada Resort

Developed by True Blue Development, Kimpton Kawana Bay Grenada Resort is attractively positioned between the tropical rainforest cliffs and Grand Anse Beach on the sun-soaked Caribbean island. The scheme’s distinctive moniker references the native leatherback turtles, which were named ‘kawana’ by the Carib Indians.

Our researchers report that the project’s currently on hold, having previously been pencilled in for an early 2022 launch.

Featuring architecture and interiors by Stantec in Florida, the resort’s expected to feature 146 guestrooms upon completion, including 45 suites, with an additional 12 penthouse apartments available to purchase; a number of the resort’s suites will boast private pools overlooking Grand Anse Beach and all of the guestrooms will come with ocean views. Key amenities earmarked for the property include an infinity pool, a chef-driven restaurant, beach bars, a lounge, a fitness centre, a spa and water sports facilities.
