The forthcoming Radisson Red hotel will be located within The High Street Group’s £120 million development next to St James’ Park, home of Newcastle United FC.

Set to open in 2023, this property will mark the arrival of the fun, upscale hotel brand to one of the UK’s liveliest cities.

A new design-led hotel for Newcastle

When Radisson Red Newcastle reaches completion, it’ll provide a style-savvy place for guests to stay in the heart of the city centre. Fitting in with its surroundings, the hotel will reflect the city’s personality through bold design, informal service and a vibrant social scene.

Altogether, the hotel will comprise 200 guest rooms, a signature restaurant and a stylish sky bar as well as an al fresco space on the roof, extensive event facilities and a top-of-the-range gym. Paired with Instagrammable design, the hotel aims to stand out as a buzzing destination for travellers and locals alike.

“We’re very excited to be part of the incredible cultural scene in Newcastle, bringing fun with a fresh, upscale hotel brand to the city centre,” said Elie Younes, executive vice president and chief development officer for Radisson Hotel Group. “Radisson Red and Newcastle are a fantastic match.”

“We are delighted to agree the partnership with Radisson Hotel Group, one of the leading global hotel operators, to help make our development at Strawberry Place a fantastic destination,” added Gary Forrest, chairman of The High Street Group. “We are looking forward to working with a company with over 75 years of experience of developing world-class hospitality and exceptional service to customers.”

A red-letter day for the city

Set within The High Street Group’s £120 million Strawberry Place development, One St James’, the hotel will neighbour more than 300 affordable-rent apartments and premium offices, as well as a range of restaurants, bars and attractive public spaces. Radisson Red’s prominent location means that guests will be just a few minutes’ walk from the vibrant Grey Street and Bigg Market, which put Newcastle on the map as a party city, and just half a kilometre from the main train station.

This development forms part of The High Street Group’s 18-strong project pipeline across the UK. The company already operates 21 hotels, bars and restaurants in the North East and has recently completed the tallest building in Newcastle, Hadrian’s Tower, which boasts 162 apartments, Hadrian’s and Co Coffee House and the 26th-floor champagne lounge 3Sixty.
