Part of the ambitious redevelopment of the Olympia London exhibition centre, this 196-room Hyatt Regency hotel scheme has won our latest Project of the Week title.

Hyatt Hotels Corporation’s forthcoming project will provide a premium guest experience within a sprawling site showcasing the work of prominent design firms.

A new cultural district

Chicago-headquartered hospitality company Hyatt first announced plans for Hyatt Regency London Olympia in December 2020 after entering into a management agreement with an affiliate of Olympus Property Holding. On opening, this 196-key hotel will accommodate guests within the redeveloped Olympia London convention centre, which dates back to 1873.

The Olympia London site is being transformed into a new integrated convention, entertainment and cultural district. As part of the project, the Olympia tube and rail station is being upgraded, while additional bicycle routes are being created and enhanced bus connectivity – including to the city’s airports – is being delivered.

A new 14-acre space anchored by the glass barrel vaulted roofs of its historic Grand and National Halls is being designed by Heatherwick Studio and Spparc. On completion, the site will encompass an arthouse cinema, performance arts venue, theatre and rooftop sky garden, along with a number of restaurants, shops, hotels, offices and coworking space.

Designed for business and leisure

The Hyatt Regency hotel here aims to deliver personalised and energising guest experiences in a stress-free environment embodying the upper-upscale brand’s ethos. Aimed at both business and leisure travellers, the property will be home to amenities including a restaurant and lobby lounge with bar and market area, plus four meeting rooms and flexible space to work, collaborate or unwind.

Adding greater convenience, the hotel will also be directly connected to the convention centre.

Haworth Tompkins is leading the architectural design of Hyatt Regency London Olympia and Twenty2Degrees Design Partnership is handling the interiors. The hotel is expected to open in the first quarter of 2024.
