Project in focus: Pendry Natirar, New Jersey
by Lauren Jade Hill | 27 Feb 2021 | All, Hotel Projects, Projects
This 66-key modern-day manor accompanied by 24 contemporary countryside residences will open in New Jersey’s historic Somerset County next year.
Expected to launch in the third quarter of 2022, Pendry Natirar and Pendry Residences Natirar represents one of Pendry Hotels’ most significant developments to date.
An iconic setting
The creation of this hospitality scheme in the hills of Somerset County, less than an hour from New York City, will involve the extensive redevelopment of one of America’s finest country estates. The 33,000 sq ft Tudor-style mansion, formerly owned by the late king of Morocco, was first completed in 1912 for the heiress Kate Macy Ladd and her husband Walter Ladd.
In 2018, Pendry Hotels announced plans to transform the site, which at that time already housed the award-winning Ninety Acres Restaurant & Cooking School, a sustainable farm, the Mansion Ballroom banqueting space and a private membership club; work has since begun to restore and enhance the estate. Most notably, the estate is being expanded to incorporate an adjoining 66-key hotel. Pendry Hotels added that Ninety Acres, which features the interiors of Rockwell Group, will form part of the new resort.
Contemporary country living
On opening, Pendry Natirar will be home to the full-service Spa Pendry, with facilities including a swimming pool, a fitness centre, tennis courts and a private members’ club. It’ll also be the base for guests to try a range of outdoor activities, such as hiking, biking and horseback-riding, on 400 acres of protected land. The addition of more than 13,000 sq ft of indoor meeting space, including a 5,000 sq ft ballroom and outdoor lawns, promise to make it the ideal location for meetings and events such as weddings.
Pendry Natirar’s culinary ethos will draw on the abundant produce of Natirar farm and a desire to create special settings for guests, residents and club members to gather and celebrate, from the lounge in the mansion’s grand room to the new signature restaurant overlooking the Somerset County countryside. The reinvigorated Ninety Acres restaurant will also provide an opportunity for travellers to experience tasty seasonal menus.
In addition, the estate will accommodate a bespoke collection of private, whole-ownership Estate and Farm Villa Residences, combining luxury country living with contemporary style. These residences will give owners the opportunity to immerse themselves in a community focused on wellness, a connection to nature and sustainable living, accompanied by convenient access to the nearby hotel’s services and amenities.
Coscia Moos Architect is behind the design of this significant scheme by Pendry Hotels, the luxury hospitality brand from Montage International.
