We find out the latest on ambitious plans to develop a newbuild hotel with 191 keys and impressive F&B facilities opposite the New Zealand International Convention Centre.

This exciting hotel will accommodate business and leisure travellers across 191 guestrooms and suites.

A milestone project

Located on Wellesley Street West, Hotel Grand Chancellor Auckland will welcome guests to stay directly opposite the New Zealand International Convention Centre. The 12-storey project, which was announced in February 2021, will be brought to life by a team that includes Beca, Ignite Architects and DPD International.

This represents Hotel Grand Chancellor’s first newbuild hotel in the country. Through its parent company, Hotel Grand Central, it already owns and operates several properties around Australia and New Zealand, including a smaller aparthotel in Auckland.

A reflection of the area

Hotel Grand Chancellor Auckland’s guestrooms will be spread across ten levels above a two-storey podium with public amenities, a laneway and a verdant central courtyard. The property promises to make the most of its natural light, as well as providing views over the courtyard and nearby harbour.

Facilities within the new property are to include a café next to the lobby, complete with a walk-up café window, which will turn into a bar every evening. A restaurant and meeting facilities, meanwhile, will provide views of Wellesley Street on level one.

Overall, the building aims to reflect the proud city’s heritage, both cultural and geographic, through its contemporary design. Currently under construction, Hotel Grand Chancellor Auckland is expected to reach completion in the third quarter of 2023.
